Have you done any tuneup?

For idle, pull the IAC sensor on the back of the throttle body. Clean it and the inside of the TB. It will be covered in black carbon build up. Be careful with it.

See what that does. I would expect other things to be a problem though. I hope you didn't turn the distributor in an attempt to adjust timing. It seems like you understand by stating "automatic timing". I do understand that you checked what the timing is showing. Did you change the timing chain and other stuff?

Sounds like the distributor is not clocked correctly. Although it does not set ignition timing the rotor still needs to be pointing to the correct cylinder ...it actually sets the timing of the injector pulse, the cam sensor is in there. You need to bring cylinder #1 to top dead center on the COMPRESSION stroke. Then see if the distributor rotor is pointing to #1 on the cap, if it isn't you will have to remove the distributor hold down and lift the distributor up and turn it so that when it is installed the rotor is in the correct position.
