Default Voice Recognition Problems

Hi there. I'm brand new to the forum, I bought a 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie about a month ago. I've had issues with the VR pretty much not recognizing anything I say. It does have the newest radio model in it. I took it to the dealership, and they told me there wasn't anything they could do to fix it, but they were having the same issues I was having. Just curious if anyone else has had any issues with this. I'd appreciate any feedback anybody has!

Thanks!

I had issues with it recognizing song names from my SD card for about a month, but all of a sudden it all just started working, pretty damn flawlessly. I don't know if it has to "learn" the names of your songs before it will recognize them by VR or what.

I've never had problems with it understanding anything else though.

I was also surprised at all the different commands: http://www.driveuconnect.com/pdf/Uco...ceCommands.pdf

you have to use the VOICE TRAINING function

a person from say NEW YORK sounds different from someone from Louisiana
the radio asks you to count from 1 to 0, then say certain words or letters

the radio voice does not understand Toronto EH

Yup you have to go into the Language sub selection. There they have Redneck, Yankee, Latin, Ebonics, and Canadian so it can understand. J/K

What was difficult for me was I came from a Ford and the Sync commands are said differently than Uconnect, it was like learning a whole new language.

The VR is useless for me, it does not understand anything. Add this along with the locked-out control for navigation and the system is useless on the go. I use my Galaxy s3, no problems.

I've read all of the instructions but never saw anything about training the system. Where is the voice training function located?

I was told about the voice training function, but apparently that was on the older style radio. The newest radio does not have voice training. The dealership seemed to think that it would be addressed at some point through a software update. Not exactly the answer I was hoping for.

this^ i have no idea how to "train" my system, its not in the menus thats for sure...maybe its a voice command that it wont understand anyway? "voice training" "tuning to AM radio" "voice training" "weather indicates no rain" "motherefffinaskdjgshkg" "voice command unrecognized".

I just finished reading about 40 pages of the Uconnect manual

you are correct, there is no voice training for the 2013 Ram radios

You have to learn the Uconnect language
You also have to set your rear view mirror a certain way
you have to close your windows
you have to put your climate control fan on Low
if you have noisy tires, you have to slow down
you have to tell your passengers to shut up

the reason for these is because Chrysler went the Cheap route & did Not use a Noise Cancelling Microphone & they put the microphone in the wrong place, most auto brands have moved their microphone to a better location

I updated by software to 13.10.6 and it definitely helped my voice recognition. I hear they have a new update available now.

visit http://www.driveuconnect.com/support/ramtrucks/ and click on System updates for the latest software.
