Default 2004 Ram 1500

Hello
Could anyone tell me what Dodge motor is better? The 3.7, 4.7 V8 or the 5.7 V8? I'm looking to trade my 2004 Wrangler in on a 2004 Ram 1500, I don't need big power and it's a two wheel drive truck. Is one motor better than the other's as far as holding up?? Thanks

5.7 for the win out of the 3 (I would lean more towards 6.4/392 or even 426)...

I've owned an older 3.7L Ram, it drank gas like it was kool aid. Ran great, but no power and poor mileage is a bad combo. I have the 2012 5.7 now, love it. It gets mileage on par with your current ride but with a lot more power. The 4.7 is not a bad engine either, I just can't see buying a smaller V-8 that just makes less power with no fuel economy advantage over the 5.7.

forget the 3.7. the 4.7 and the 5.7 are good choices. i have an 04 4.7 in my grand cherokee, owned since new. if you can find one that was well cared for, regular oil changes then that would be fine as the early 4.7 was prone to sludge build up. frequent oil changes seems to have prevented this. i would look at the total truck and accept either engine.

3.7 is a waste honestly.
The 4.7 is a great engine if you properly maintain it. I have had two both over 200k miles before any real issues. Tows good, gets the job done. The 5.7 hemi is a great engine and will tow just about anything without an issue. It also has much more power for general driving (merging etc.)

Really a matter of what you can afford vs. condition of the truck in trade.

Thanks everybody for your info and thoughts, I ended up buy (trading) for an 04 SLT with the 5.7, your right, you have to watch that pedal on the right! I thought the trans was acting up when I took off from a stop light, tires were spinning going over the white stop line. Drove 260 miles one way to get the truck but it was south and the truck is in real nice shape, NO rust even on the frame, oh ya, she's black with chrome bumpers and grill, sweet!
