Question Crazy Idea!....

So I have been toying with my exhaust since i got the truck. Its a 04 scsb with the 5.7. The day I got it i went and bought a super44 flowie, which have been on all of my other trucks and I loved it!

I have always just put the muffler in the stock location and thats all. No tail pipe, no turndowns, no nothing. Just muffler.

I loved the sound of this setup on this truck! I got compliments on the sound constantly!

However!....

I lost entirly too much back pressure for these motors and was real upset at about how bad my performance tanked.

So since I had bought a SIDO muffler, I had tail pipe ran all the way out back.

It had a great sound and tone and performance was back, but just wasnt loud enough anymore.

So my brilliant ( ) idea was to cut the cats out like I did my previous trucks, which turned out beautifully!

Not soo much on this truck! Sounds like a loud straight piped pulp wood truck! and I hate it. tail pipe off - sounds horrible. tail Pipe on - sounds bad.

But then, I got an idea that I believe may be the answer Im looking for!

I got to thinking, why do all these newer "muscle cars" sound do damn mean and loud!?!?

The mufflers are at the rear of the car!!!!

So what if..... I do some LT's, into two new magnaflow cats, into a x-pipe where the stock muffler goes (where the flowie is now), then stick 2 flowie super 44 behind the rear bumper.

All the pipe would be 2.5 except for the 3" collector.

What do yall think and is there anyone who has actually tried this already?

nothing really uncommon or "crazy" with that setup so hopefully one chimes in shortly.

..my setup is outta the box as well..lt's, gutted cats, true duals to di/so muffler dumped post axle with an H where the Y pipe use to be. Because i run the biggest maggie it's quieter than most setups...but i also have dual cutouts after the H for when I want to be louder than everyone...

This all depends on the sound you're chasing. A mid muffler with tail pipe setup will give you the 90-early 2000's hollow mustarg sound. Running a muffler behind the axle setup will give you a loud, raspy sound. Ever think about running the mufflers before the axle, and doing a side exit?

I have but i think i need the pipe to give me the backpressure I need on this motor. when I first got the truck I just cut off the muffler and all the pipe after it and threw a FM super 44 on it. sounded great. But I lost the backpressure. screwed up my shift points and I could no longer chirp the tires when I stomped it. then I had pipe ran out the back. still sounded good but I wanted it LOUD again. So I took off the cats. BIG MISTAKE! Now I have this awful pulp wood truck popping sound when Im driving around town. Its awful at around 2k-2.5k rpm. And too make things worse... I jumped the gun and scraped the cats before I was done with the install. Got 80 bucks out of them. Kick my self in the ass everyday now!

Now I'm terrified I wont be able to get rid of that horrid sound now.

Thinking about getting the $67 Magnaflow cats off summit to replace them. I have to do something! If I spend about $600 on this exhause setup and dont like it... My wife will probably divorce me....seriously!

Any one have any tips or suggestions?
