Default Tailgate assist for 2013s?

I bought one of these for my 2011 and I remember buying the first one from RockAuto and it was a ball and socket type of connection to the truck which I did not like so I returned it. I then bought another one from somewhere else that used screws on both top and bottom and looked much more sturdy and has lasted 2 years now. Can someone tell me where they bought theres from? Does the one you can get at O'Rileys work good? That may be where I bought my current one but I just don't remember. I know their are several of them out there and some barely even slow down the tailgate and I don't want that either.

Thanks guys! Today is my Fathers Day since wife and I both work on the real Fathers Day so I'm going to take a trip to O'Rileys in a little while if thats the good one..

I'd just recommend not buying it from rock auto. It will fit but for some reason there's has a ball and socket connection to the truck that just didn't look very sturdy to me. I can not remember where I got the one I'm using now but it's great and has lasted over 2 years now with no problem! Auto anything has a good price but its hard to tell from the picture if its the ball and socket or not (the ball and socket had the same model number and everything).

I plan on getting the Dee-Zee as well. Have heard nothing but good things about it.

As far as I know it uses a ball & socket on top and uses a bushing & screw on the bottom but haven't heard of it having issues

Hear is a link with close ups of all parts.

you can see that it just replaces that screw that does into the truck with a longer one that has 2 groves, one for the safety strap of the tailgate and the other for the tailgate assist shock. Its so much better then the ball and socket IMO!

I can see why you like that better. as the dee-zee with ball & socket can look like it will come off easier. though from my research I haven't found that to be so true.

On my old Sonoma I had the ball & socket type on the ones for my CAP door and never had issues other then the seals wore out and I had to replace them as it never was able to hold it fully open. Though they did last very long.

Or advance, or autozone? I just want to see it before I buy it so I wont have to ship it somewhere to return it if its not right like I did with rockauto last time..

I have the DeeZee and am very happy with it. It's a ball in socket style, but so far it has performed without issue.

I looked at Autozone's website, it says they carry them, but more than likely the model you need would have to be ordered, but at least you'd be about to look at and put your hands on one. Call your local stores to see if they have any models in stock and how soon it would take to get one delivered or to the store.

Wishing your Dad the best!
