I love the "off the line" and "burnout" talk when it comes to pickups. It's a truck, who cares how fast it gets off the line. You want to impress me, hook a 12000 pound trailer to a truck and pull it, now that's what impresses me.

I think the Hemi is a beast in every way. Bottom line to me is a pickup truck should have a V8 under the hood.
Looking at Ram's website they advertise a "10,450 pound maximum towing capacity" for the 1500. According to Ford the Ecoboost has "best in class 11,300 pound towing capacity". Last I checked 11k was more than 10k...and max towing capacity is what impresses, right?

As far as speed and burn outs, I agree that isn't the main point of having a truck. However, if you are implying that you'd rather have a truck that is both slower and can tow more then you'll only get half your wish with choosing a 1500 over the F150. Plus, the huge performance accessories aftermarket for pickups tells me there are more than a couple of folks out there who aren't adverse to having a truck with a little get up and go. I've even heard rumors that somehow the 454 SS, SRT-10, SVT Lightning, and SVT Raptor all sold rather well. Heck, Dodge has been making go fast trucks since at least 1978's Lil' Red Express Truck.

Most of us on here have already voted for the Ram with our dollars so nobody should feel threatened or insecure. I simply had a chance to try out a truck that is a major competitor to the Ram and though some might like to hear a few observations of what I thought folks would be most interested in: power and interior comfort/features. If I had to do it over again I'd still pick the Ram (though I'd get the 8 speed). The Ecoboost's power is impressive and a lot of fun, but once the golly-gee factor wears off you are left with a vehicle that is a bit faster and can tow just under 1k pounds more but isn't nearly as nice to spend a long time behind the wheel and doesn't handle as well. But whitewashing over the fact that there is a truck out there that is superior in one particular way or another profits us nothing.

You said it! To each his own. We are RAM guys on here, but there are millions of other guys with different loyalties/ opinions. So, if they want to drive an inferior product, God bless 'em!

A guy at work had 2 Ecoboost F150's in the past year. First one had a bunch of service work done and it still surged all the time. Then the dummy got another thinking it would be better, no such luck. Dumped it last week. Should of lemon lawed them both but he is not very patient. I'd say that Ford has some big problems with this engine.

Good review. Thanks for taking the time to do so, especially on a forum where you know you would catch just a little grief. Varied perspective is the key to knowledge.

Love my new ram. Chose it for looks and class leading innovation which is important to progress in any business/ hobby.

Bingo! I just don't trust a V6 with a turbo to handle the stress a truck puts on it (unless you don't use it like a truck, then it's irrelevant). I couldn't imagine buying a truck without a V8. Just doesn't seem right to me.

I heard Ford is putting a V6 with a Turbo in the new Mustang as well, no more V8 for the Mustang. As a guy who loves Mustang's, that also isn't right. I wouldn't want a V6 in a Mustang, turbo or not.

I agree the sound just isn't the same but I don't know about the V6 not being able to handle the stress. From what I can gather the internals of those Ecoboost engines are pretty stout. Just because it's a 6 cylinder doesn't mean it cant take the stress. Those straight 6 Cummins' seem to handle stress pretty well.

Also, when the Ecoboost is climbing a grade pulling a trailer and barely breaking a sweat and the 8 cylinder equivalent (Ram, Ford, Chev) has downshifted twice and is screaming past 4500 on the tach, which one is really seeing more "stress"? I know with my old '07 Hemi sometimes I wonder what's keeping the thing from going BOOM! Then I read about guys pulling up grades with their Ecoboost at 2 grand in 6th gear ...

Thanks for the great review. I am still just a lurker who lusts over multiple vehicles. A few months ago, I was convinced the charcoal grey F150 Platinum was the truck for me. My neighbor has one and it looks pretty fancy. Of course, I have also wanted a RAM 1500 since the 2009 redesign. I was almost ready to pull the trigger in 2011, but the wife talked me out of it.

I currently have a 2005 Nissan Armada, but am seriously thinking of buying a 2013 or 2014 RAM (again). Time will tell, but I won't buy something unless I love it. My Nissan is far from perfect, but it still looks and drives great. I have not had a car payment for over 3 years, so I figure why change that unless I have to or fall in love

As for the Platinum, friends of mine just bought a brand new burgundy Platinum. I had my first ride in it last week and I was GREATLY disappointed. They have the EcoBoost and it sounded like an econobox. No V-8 rumble and if I closed my eyes, it could have been an Escort!. I sat in the rear seat and I was amazed at how cheap everything looked. I was really surprised. I have not been in a RAM for a while, but I think they are better than this. The Platinum's leather seats felt nice, but the other materials did not make me want the truck. Another disappointment was the ride quality. I was really surprised here, cuz I thought the Platinum was supposed to have a great ride.

I need to test drive another RAM soon.
