Default Fifth wheel help

Hello, im new here but just curious if anyone has installed a DSP fifth wheel hitch on a ram with the rear coil springs, the instructions that come with the rails measurements are completely off, have a bolt and bracket go where the spring itself is. If anyone knows of better intructions or has pictures of theirs, or even a different brand with similar brackets.

thanks

Should you even be pulling a 5'r with a 1500? Payload capacity alone doesn't seem to be enough for the weight a 5'r puts down!

Is the rail kit made for your specific truck or universal. Check the part numbers and call the company to verify fit for your specific truck. You might want to look into some air bags to help with the load. Air lift 1000 cost about 85.00 off amazon and are simple to install. There are other options out there but cost a little more but are going to be for the most part a better equipment option.

Sorry, I guess I was a little harsh...

However, doing some research and even the lightest 5'rs (unless you are talking sub 20 footer) have a hitch weight over 1000lbs, the most popular "half ton" 5'rs have a hitch weight of about 1300-1400lbs, that does not leave much with a 1600lb payload truck.

I towed a 36 foot trailer with a 980 hitch weight for a little under a year, and I can tell you, if you plan on pulling a trailer with any significant weight, check your options carefully. I just made the switch to a 2500 and the difference is night and day. The trailer stop swaying, my fuel consumption and stress level went way down as well.

Don't get me a wrong, I love Ram's and I loved my 2012 1500, but when i started towing my new trailer I realized quickly that even with Airbags, the best Hitch money can buy and great patience, the truck just doesn't have it what it takes. The Hemi and Transmission or more than enough to meet the towing limits, however the rear end suspension can't take the load.

If you have any questions, send me a message... again, sorry I came out a little harsh in my first post... I just deal with alot of people on the RV forums that are a little blind to what is actually included in the "payload" aspect of things!

I was looking at this lately, but everywhere I read suggests 2500 or 3500
