The Bosch filter 3335 did not work properly as it caused the oil pressure light/gauge and the malfunction light to come on. Took it down the dealer and they got a code reading off the computer saying their was a problem with the oil filter. Put in the mopar and all was good again.

Looking back at the Bosch, the book at AZ said the the 3335 was recommended for the 3.6L from '09 thru '13. Didn't have any info on '14 so I assume there was a slight change between '13 and '14 filters. Anyway, go with the Mopar to be safe, only $10 at the dealer.

Sorry you had so much trouble. This thread is dedicated to Oil Filter Change on 3.6L V6 Pentastar. You could go over to a V8 thread where they might find this information more useful.

Default Tough Oil-Change Day

[Hi, great write up and pics .. going to do my own change .. as the 1st change at the costed more than I expected .. question .. the Oring .. it is the ring for the cap ? it is the seal between the plastic cap and the filter housing ?] Yes, the ring goes in the wide gap just above the cap threads. I just finished my second change today and ran into a couple of pitfalls. First, HIGHLY recommend replacing the factory aluminum drain plug with a steel one. My first change I noticed that I had to push on the socket to get it to grab the plug head, should have replaced it then. Today the six-point 13 mm Craftsman socket rounded the head. Finally got the plug out using a Craftsman "Bolts Out" socket (set is $25). It also took a 3' cheater bar for leverage in the tight space under the truck. I know I didn't put the plug in that tight, they seem to get tighter between changes! Put in the new steel plug from O'Reilly Auto Parts (#65324), then realized that I had the wrong filter cartridge, a Fram "Extra Guard" CH11665 purchased at Walmart. Turns out the plastic end on the cartridge is different depending on year model. I have a 2013, it was changed for 2014 and later. So back to O'Reilly for the right filter. The Microguard MGL57526 worked fine on my 2013 3.6L. Hopefully you won't have these problems!

Default Tightening oil filter cap

I used a 15/16" open end wrench to tighten the filter cap. Turns out if will just fit between the two solid air conditioner lines allowing almost a quarter turn at a time. When the cap was threaded nearly all the way in, I determined it was tight enough by putting my finger nail between the cap flange and metal housing each time I tightened a quarter turn. When I could no longer get fingernail in the gap figured it was touching or close enough that oil ring was certainly all the way into the housing and providing a tight seal. Don't forget to look for leaks with truck running, I once lost four quarts of oil on one of these German O-ring filter assemblies.

Default Correct Fram Filter for 2013 ONLY 3.6L Ram

If you go to Walmart, the correct Fram number for the Extra Guard oil filter for a 2013 ONLY model is CH10955. it was over $10 at my local store, online shows $8.87. The MicroGuard MGL57526 available from O'Reilly is only $5.99, appears pretty similar.
