Default Swap My 4.7 to a Diesel?

Can I take out my 4.7L and put in a diesel? The truck is a 2005 1500.

a cummins engine is way to heavy for a 1500. you would also have to adapt a new trans.

It HAS been done, but keep this in mind: the guy who successfully did it had a 2002 1500 with a 360 that blew up. He took an earlier model 12v Cummins and put it in using 2500 front coil springs (2wd). Took him quite a while (months) to get it to just start, another however many (at least 3) to get all the other electronics, gauges, etc to work.

For the cost I would think you could get a whole 2500 truck LOL. If you are trying to be different like mentioned it has been done but at great expense of time and cash.

Are you thinking of a 5.9 swap or a 4BT swap?

I definitely agree it would likely be cheaper, not to mention easier, to sell yours and buy a 2500 diesel.

The question I have, is why do you want to do the swap? Putting the diesel in your 1500 won't increase the capabilities of your truck by much since it's only a 1500. In fact, legally it doesn't increase the capability at all. MPG wouldn't make sense since you'd never get the cost of the swap back. Not judging, just curious.

Ive seen them swapped into late 60s Dodge Sweptlines, and depending on how much of the fab work you do yourself, and how much the engine/trans and suspension parts costs you, you can do it for a couple of grand. Its going to take you time to engineer the engine mounts, figure out the proper position, etc etc, but if you know what you are doing, its not going to be much different than most other engine transplants.

Save yourself some time - just put diesel in next time you fill up.

Seems easy enough to me.

Seriously - if you are asking these types of questions, the answer is "no." It ain't a walk in the park for diesel swaps.
