Default My eBay catch can idea

Ok I know everyone says stay away from eBay catch can but I just couldnt help myself. As I do believe 100% the ones for made for our truck by a couple of venders are much better quality. To me its still a can just for catching oil and I have to try spending $20 before $100 plus. Anyways I got the cheap one everybody sees with the clear tube on the side.

It came in and I immediately headed to my favorite auto store. "Lowes" I took the clear tube off and plugged the holes with bolts as I dont care for the tube idea. I then installed a threaded tube in the bottom drain hole which is connected to a tube with a on/off valve at the bottom. My idea behind this is too not have to remove the catch can to drain it. I simply place pan under front bumper and turn valve to remove all collected oil.

I mounted everything up tonight other then the actual lines that I'll get to tomorrow. I hope all this works out and I can keep using it so I can apply money else where.

Let me know any of your thoughts. Even if you dont like it. Thanks

Nice job. Let us know how it works out. Looks like you added some time & money into it. I'm with you though....I want one, but don't want to spend >$120 on it. I'm trying to hold out for the Nov sale.

I can't see your pictures for whatever reason, maybe because on my office computer...stupid work computer policies. But I get the idea. I personally would have left the sight tube, that's my biggest complaint with these expensive catch cans...always guessing. But I agree with doing it the thrifty way first, at least in this situation. I did a DIY using an air compressor seperator I picked up at Home Depot. For as little as they cost, any amount use and experienced benefits are worth the budget route and you can always upgrade later. My 2 cents.

Yea I wasn't sure on how the clear tube would hold up over time and if it would stay clear. I just wanted to eliminate a problem. Figured the expensive ones didn't put them on for a reason. Just my thought.

I don't have any problem with the way it looks, I would just be concerned with how it works. What type of filtration media does it have on the inside to separate the oil? I think that is more of where you are going to "get what you pay for".

Yea it doesn't have any type of filtration system in it but I don't understand how thats going to stop the oil from being collected. Not that am saying its the best can in the world because its far from that. I just wanted to test the idea. I will get a little bit better can if this works or just get a real deal one.

This is the other I was considering since it opens.
