Default 6 speed transmission shift issue??

Just picked up my new Ram this past Wednesday and I noticed when leaving from a stop light or sign, when it shifts into 3rd gear from 2nd it seems to rev up quite a bit before it drops into place.

I have tried harder take offs and easy take offs and of course it is less noticable on the harder ones but is quite noticable on the easier ones.

The truck only has about 180km's (112 miles) and although it could be wishful thinking, I thought it wasn't as bad tonight coming home from work?

Is this something anyone else has experienced with their new 6 speeds and if so, is this normal and it will eventually get better or iyo, do I have a problem?

The RPM's rev up to about 2000 +/- before it shifts.
(2013 Ram BigHorn QC 4X4 with the 5.7 Hemi 3.55 gear ratio)

I have the exact same truck you have. I have approximately 2200 miles on it now and it has never done what you have described. I would probably take it into the dealer just to check it out. Better safe than sorry.

Not what I was hoping to hear.

Thanks, I appreciate the feed back.

I believe somebody posted something similar before. In actual fact when not in slap shift/semi auto the 6 speed only uses gears 1,3,5,6. I believe. Don't quote me on that but I believe the tranny does not use all gears. That Is probably why it will run up a few more rpms then seem necessary.

It uses 1,2,4,5,6 in drive. Mine doesn't do what you describe either.

Yeah, take it in to the dealer Irv. I have the 6 speed (2012) and what you are describing does not seem normal. Don't freak out though, could just need a "flash" from the dealer. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thanks, I'll have to search or Google that and hopefully I am able to learn something?
Seems to be working better everytime I drive the truck but it could be wishful thinking or I am just getting use to to it?

Thanks for the info

So it bypasses 3rd altogether?
If that is the case, I can understand why it revs higher in second gear before going into 4th.
When it does shift, it is smooth as in no clunk, it is just the amount of rev it has before hand that concerns me, but maybe that is normal??
(I need to drive someone else's 6 speed to compare)

I think that is what I am going to do, even if they say it is normal, at least I'll have a record of it if it actually isn't?

Thanks for the info everyone, I appreciate it.

Yes it will miss 3rd on the up shift. I will check what rpm it shifts at today and report back. I do have the 3.92 so it will be a little higher than yours I would imagine.
