Default Dealer extra's? anybody?

Anybody get the rust protection, undercoating spray or any other of the crap they offer from the dealership when you purchase your truck? are any of them worth it?

I'm in Toronto and we have a Gold Plan warranty program that I did sign up for. In fact I went for the undercoating too.

I normally pass on these, but I got such a super good deal that I couldn't pass them up.

I usually flip my vehicles every 3 - 4 years, but this time going in I thought that I may keep this one longer, so why not get the warranty.

My philosophy on warranties are this;

You can get warranties for cars, trucks, computers, watches, fridges, stoves....etc...etc... and if you were to get a warranty on all of them it would cost thousands, or you skip all the warranties and the one or two things that could go wrong will likely cost you less than what all the extra warranties combined would have been.

Right or wrong that's the way I look at them.

Bugs the living crap out of my wife but I have this exact mentality and hold her to it. Anytime somebody starts talking to me about a warranty I remember the scene from the movie Tommy Boy.

I'm purchasing the Lifetime Maximum Care Warranty online when my 12 months of ownership gets closer. That's the only thing I'm buying. I was pleasantly surprised that the dealership where I bought my truck didn't try to hard sell me on all the other stuff. I'm not a big believer in the other items the dealer/finance person tries to up sell you with, and neither is my brother in law (who is a master mechanic with Toyota).

Warranties are a personal choice and you must shop two things:
Cost
Get a copy of the warranty and take it to your local repair shop and have them look it over because it's more important what it doesn't cover.

Only reason I'm considering a warranty is because truck only comes with a 5 year. Most people have well over 100k miles at 5 years so really its not even 5 year warranty. I probably won't buy one though. If something major happens to my truck before 100k miles and its not covered under my warranty I will have to trade it in anyway. It's a hard decision just because I see it as me giving away $2000 just in case. If I use the warranty then its worth it but if not then I waisted $2k. I'm still debating.

That and the one I have used on my wife. She was bragging about how in depth the salesman had gone about a warranty and I just looked at her and said "because he knows all he sold you was a guaranteed piece of shit"

i personally didnt buy the extra warranty because of the factory warranty that comes with almost every product you buy.
