Question AIR/OIL (Can) Seperator - Install on HEMI/8-Speed RAM 1500 - Fit Questions ?

May I ask for some guidance and assurance on the install of the MOROSO Air/Oil Separator model No. 85472 ( Oil Catch Can by another name ). I have never done engine modifications before.

I am awaiting the build and delivery of my Ram 1500 with the Hemi 5.7L and 8-Speed Transmission. I have reviewed the threads on the subject of the Oil catch can and I want to plan ahead for when my new Truck arrives. I have chosen to go with the Moroso 85472 unit, I like the feature that you can bleed off the oil via a petcock fitting at the bottom of the unit. It also comes with a bracket that locates the unit next to the radiator.

My question:

1 ) is the “next to the radiator” install of the provided bracket at that location acceptable on the 2013 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L HEMI and 8-Speed Transmission.

2) Does the unit come with tubing to complete the install at that location or do I need to source that as well ?

3) If I need to source the tubing can someone tell me what to get to complete the install.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide. I would like to have this ordered and received before my new ride arrives.

You will want to contact the manufacturer or whichever catch can you're thinking about, because all the ones I've looked at specifically say they don't fit with 8 speed transmissions.

Thumbs up I reached out to MOROSO Techhelp for clarification on which - Oil Catch Can Model to use ?

Update:

I reached out to Techhelp@moroso.com for clarification see bellow:

TechHelp,

I hope you can clarify for me the proper model Air Oil Separator for my new 2013 RAM 1500 4x4 with the HEMI 5.7L engine and 8-Speed Automatic Transmission.
In my research on the RAM community discussion forums I was not exactly clear on what will fit this truck properly with the 8 speed transmission.

I am being told that the Model No:85472 will fit nicely and one of the included bracket mounts will work nicely.

I am also being told that Model No: 85479 is the preferred and listed as specific for the Dodge Trucks and the Instillation Guide from MOROSO has pictures showing that it mounts to the radiator shroud for a clean looking install.

Note : The install guide for the 85479 specifies that you will need one hose 36" and one 29" to complete the install. The Kit comes with only 36" of hose. Can you supply an extra 36" length of hose at cost of course ?

Thank you for your attention to this inquiry,

I received the following response :

The 85479 is the Kit you would go with. The kit comes with 5.42ft. of hose, not 36".

My thanks to RAY from MOROSO TechHelp for his quick answer and his offer to support me with any other questions and or assistance via phone or email.

i don't really understand why a transmission requirement is needed for using a catch can?

I assume it just needs to mount a little differently.
This is what Billet Technologies has on their site:

"THIS is the original Billet Technology Catch Can for 2009-2013 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck NOT FOR 8 SPEED RAMS We are currently working on a new bracket or adjustments."

And Moe's:
"***DOES NOT FIT 2013 MODELS WITH THE 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION***"

interesting. Maybe the engine bay layout changed sufficiently for the 2013 8 speeds that new brackets are required.

The Moroso mounts entirely different than the BT can. BT is on the engine, Moroso on the radiator area. #85479 is the one for the Rams, 6spd, 8spd, 1500, 2500, and it is about as easy as it gets to install.
