Well I can tell you that I just went about 550 miles from Ky to Robinsville NC. pulling a single axle trailer and 2 crotch rockets @ 73-74 down and 75-78 back and got 11.9 down, and 10.9 back!!! I use to get 18 in my 05 cummins with same load locked at 75.

Very disappointed. I knew it would be worse, but I was hoping for 13's.

I average 13.8 going over Mt Hood in my 2013 2500 Diesel. My dad on the same trip averaged 8.7 in his 2007 5.7 Hemi. My trailer is about 800 lbs more then his.

I haven't towed it on flat ground yet for extended trip, but I was told it wouldn't budge to much from my typical freeway (about 20.5) due to the light weight trailer (6500lbs).

I towed ~4000lb single axle box trailer to north carolina and back this april and average was just over 12mpg there and back. I did 65-70 there and 70-75 back. In the 5th gear 95% of the time(tow/haul mode). I was fairly happy, considering I have the 4.7L with 3.55's. I do have a superchips tune, intake, and exhaust.

That sounds low but a couple things come to mind, like how many miles you have on your truck, your driving style, the terrain, MPG without trailer, head wind, etc. IMHO your sample is too small with too many unknown variables to judge. I'd wait until you have a much longer trip with the trailer to get better numbers. On the other hand if this is as far as you tow, wait till you have several trips over time to see if the MPG changes.

I tow a few travel trailers from work anywhere from 4000lb to 6500lb on the most part and I always get 12mpg. Now I have yet to tow anything other that my jet ski's with the tuner and intake installed. I think my MPG is pretty decent for a gas 1/2 ton. I have 3.92's btw

I just took our first camping trip with this last weekend with the new Ram (Hemi 8spd. 3.55 gears, 3,600 miles) We have a 23ft Keystone, about 5000lbs. I averaged 9-10MPG for our almost 400 mile round trip which was mainly backroads and country highways (small amount of interstate.)
I was hoping for something better as well, but it is better than our 2008 Tahoe we used to tow with.
