I have towed 2 different setups with my current truck, which is a 12' 2500 Crew Cab Long bed Hemi

I had a 16ft car trailer (Approx 2000Lbs) with my Charger (4035Lbs) and saw about 12mpg... Keep in mind I live in Florida so this was fairly flat on the interstate at about 70-75mph

I recently purchased a 8.5 x 28ft enclosed trailer. With no gear she is at about 5000Lbs, I have yet to pull it with the car. She was seeing about 7-8mph so I fear how much worse it will be with another 5000Lbs inside

We tow a 34' travel trailer weighing approx. 6400 lbs and we average 12.5 mpg. Average speed of 100 - 110 km/h up and down hills. The truck has 4000 kms on it with 6 speed and 3.92 rear ends.

I know this is tough for us to do, but try slowing down. If you get a chance on a section of Interstate you have traveled before and have mpg data, try driving at 60mph for that tank of gas just to see what the difference is. We have a Class A motorhome (23k lbs, GM 8.1L gas and tow a 3500lb Ranger) and the difference between 64 & 60 mph on the same highway and the same conditions is about 1mph--from 6.5 to 7.4. But it's tuf for me to drive that slow unless the speed limit is 55, like in OR & CA.

That frontal area is the killer--the more vertical the worse it is.

Most trailer tires aren't rated to go above 60mph. When I tow I never go above 60 even if the speed limit is 70 or 75. It's just not worth it to risk a blowout or having to do emergency braking.

On my 2004 Chevy 2500HD (6.0L V8 4.10 axle) I could get 10mpg towing our 5500lb RV on a flat road. Have only had my Ram for about 2 weeks though and will be taking it out next weekend and towing for the first time with it (Hemi, 3.55 axle).

I haven’t hit freeway towing yet and only had 1,100 miles on it at the time, but I towed a tandem axle car trailer (2,000lbs) with my ’67 Camaro (3,000lbs) on it for about 20 miles all in town and I averaged 12. I was shocked as it was way better than I thought as it was pure light to light at 40MPH and never coasting. Then I towed the same trailer with 5,500 lbs of concrete on it (7,500) lbs total and it fell to around 9 for the 20 street miles. Still impressive for essentially stop and go traffic. I did find that manual trans mode is the ONLY way to go with the 6 speed. It doesn’t get the mileage my ’04 modded Cummins got towing, but this truck is way more fun to drive around and had plenty of power for the loads even with my 3.55s.

I tow my 21ft. Sea Ray boat and trailer (5800 lbs total) and get about 11.5 mpg. At least for me, not bad considering I was getting 8-9 mpg with the 2008 Titan Pro 4X I traded in for it!

I towed my boat for the first time today. It's around 4200-4300lbs. I got around 13.3 on the actual road to the boat ramp. The ramp idling, waiting, etc. lowered it some.

I have the CC, 6'4" bed, 3.92 gears, 5.7l, and 4wd.

I just did a short 300 mile round trip & was getting 11-12mpgs. Trailer is a tandem with a weight of around 5000 lbs loaded, most of it was flat highway miles with maybe 75 miles of 2 lane country road. I was happy with the mileage, most of the highway was at around 55-60 mph. Country road 30-55 mph.
