Alright I'm new to these forums . I have heard no one really replying but it's worth a shot I drive a 1996 dodge ram sport (single cab) with the 318 5.2 magnum with true dual glasspacks with turn downs before the back axel (loud and proud) it's a great truck and runs smooth until it decide to idle real low some times and when I drive it will cut back when I'm trying to drive sometimes it seems to cut back and not wanna drive smooth but it doesn't do it long just trying to find the problem hopefully ill get a response thanks
Could be any one of a number of things. O2 sensors (how much mileage on them?)? Failing intake plenum gasket? Need a tune up? If it hasn't had the intake plenum gasket repaired, I'd deal with that first.
The low idle sounds like the IAC to me but it doesn't rule out the plenum gasket. Remove the air cleaner and get a good look down inside of the TB (hold it all the way open) at the plenum plate to see if there's any oily residue indicative of it being bad. I've also run across a low idle issue from a bad upstream 02 sensor. Try unplugging the 02 sensor and check for any difference.
I'd be re-visiting that shop and wouldn't leave until they made good on re-installing the primary O2 sensors if they removed them. It's not going to run properly without them.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
