Default Oil Change

So, I took my truck in for an oil change. I was a bit over due (been busy at work). They called me about an hour later and said the throttle body needed servicing, like yesterday. Lots of carbon build up. I thought, ok... He asked what gas I use. I told him I never go below 89. I always run middle grade.
I have been using UDF gas for a while. I guess about 1.5-2 yrs ago UDF switched from Mobil gas to their own. As I look at it now, it looks like I need to go some where better.

I really hope they weren't B.S.ing me. But, anywho... I had to deal with that today.

Ticks me off. I paid for 4 oil changes last time, so the next 3 would be free. That turned into the Maintenance "C" schedule... so that cost me a bit more. Oh well, that was rant.

Sounds like the old adage, " They always F**K you at the drive thru". You can't win for losing...

Smells like BS to me. "We also noted that you needed the air changed in your tires. That'll be $300 sir".

Are you running a Catch Can? Really keeps crud out of throttle body. There are many posts about it here.

Can't imagine fuel would cause carbon build up in TB as the fuel is introduced much further down the intake system than the TB. Most times if the TB needs servicing, you'd notice something different in performance... typically idle issues.

I hope it didn't cost to much because all they do, correct me if I'm wrong, is spray a carb like cleaner in there, let it sit, run it and spray some more. My 09 had some build up and I was able to get a used bottle and the mechanic show me what to do. It did cost me $20.00 for the case of beer on the way home as beer and working on stuff always works better.

Me thinks you are right. This kind of service (or lack of) pisses me off.

Every time my wife takes her car in for an oil change they bombard her with stuff that needs to be done. She has to call me to be reassured that she doesn't need a throttle body cleaning, air filter, new wiper blades, anti freeze flush, power steering flush or what other snake oil they're pushing on the unsuspecting public. Oh yeah, it only has 25000 miles and is still under warranty. $17.95 oil changes are hard to beat, if you can stand the BS that goes with it.

Yea stubie. Catch Can! I couldn't believe how much oil collects in these jammies! I opened mine up same time I change my oil (every 3thou miles) & bam I'd say 1/3 to half full. No lie. It's amazing how much these 5.7 hemis push/suck into their intakes. I'm just glad I got one when I did. I could only imagine the nasty collecting in that poor engines throat.
