So I got my new to me ram today and I'm looking it over admiring it and I reach down and touch the rims....... Plastic caps on a steel wheel...... Wtf!!!! They looked so chrome. Why did dodge do that to me?? Lol I'm not going to let it take away from the new truck high but it kinda sucks to realize your chrome is plastic.

Your not the first and won't be the last to make the mistake of thinking they were real chrome. If it makes you feel any better, check out all the competitors most of them have the same stuff.

I personally looked at it as a reason to upgrade wheels and tires sooner.

Oh and congrats on the new truck! I'm sure you'll love it even with that fake chrome

Thanks, I really do like it. Looks good and has so much more power than my Chevy did.

They are chrome wheels they are just chromed plastic adhered to an aluminum rim. I have have 3 vehicles with these chrome clad wheels and never had an issue, but I don't live In the salt belt so I can't say how they will handle your winters. I think they are easier to care for then both the cars I had with metal rims that were chromed. The chrome clad wheels never had issues with corrosion on the beads like the chrome on metal wheels did.
Mick
P.s. I am not sure what metal the wheels were but I think it was just chrome dipped steel

I read the other large threads about these wheels and it seems pretty 50/50 like vs dislike. I can see both sides and I guess I'll have to decide for myself. On one hand I hate polishing wheels and the plastic eliminates that and it is still a nice light aluminum wheel. But the old school in me feels cheated for not having a nice polished finished wheel. The hubcap idea is hard to swallow. Ill be posting pics of my ride soon!

Im to the point where I dont mind them being what they are. They are easy to clean and I shouldnt have to worry about them too much. My Chrysler Sebring had polished aluminum wheels and those things corroded like nobodys business. I also have the aluminum painted wheels on our Durango, and they are going to need to be repainted in the next couple of years. One of these days Ill get a nicer set for the Ram to run in the summer, and Ill leave the clads for winter.

They are not FAKE chrome they are chrome. The plastic has been chromed instead of the metal. That is ream chrome your looking at.
