Default 4.7/5.7 Hemi swap

I do apologize if this is in the wrong place, but after an hour of reading I couldn't find an appropriate place to post this....

I am wondering if it is possible to replace my 4.7 with a Hemi...if so what changes have to be made....

I appreciate any info on this subject....

Anything is possible with enough time and money. But to swap a 4.7 with a 5.7, you'll need a different wire harness for sure. Don't know if the motor mounts will match up either. The tranny should, but you're still looking at a lot of fun bucks to change over.

Chances are it will require some fab work to be done in order to mount it. The Hemi may actually take up less space under the hood because its OHV unlike the 4.7 which is OHC.

If they repeated what they did with the gen 3s, then what you'll need is a scrap harness to use for modifications to the stock harness. The motor mounts for the hemi from the dealership, which may be 2-4 (depending on 2wd vs 4wd) different parts. And I'm not sure how programming has progressed on the different years for gen4, but gen3 just simply needed new fuel maps programmed onto the 4.7 computer and all was good.

It's very likely that the frame brackets are exactly the same on the 4.7 and 5.7 trucks. The difference will be in the isolater bushing and the bracket that mounts to the engine block, which is why I say you will only need to go to the dealership and get the correct parts for the 5.7

The wiring harness modifications aren't that bad at all, the biggest pain is the EGR because it's on the back of the drivers side head on the 4.7, but on the front of the passenger side head on the 5.7, and it's 6 total wires to splice it. Some wires have to be lengthened and others moved to the other side of the harness, and there may even be a connector or two that will need to be swapped. Also, the knock sensor connectors will need to be lengthened and switched since the 4.7 has the sensors on top of the block, and the 5.7 has them on the along side skirt of the block.

And as far as EGR goes, it should be possible to just leave that connector dangling and block off the EGR port on the hemi head with a billet part from shophemi.com. Then have it programmed out of the pcm.

You will also need to change the separator plate/dust shield that goes between the transmission and engine block, as well as the inspection plate (or structural collar as chrysler calls it)

And make sure to get dowel pins to go in the engine block if the 5.7 doesn't have them when you get it. (the pegs that stick out of the engine block, and slip into holes on the transmission to aid in alignment)
