Default Vararam....does it REALLY do that??

Alright....so I, like everyone else here, am doing some background check on these air intake systems before purchasing. I've narrowed it down to the Mopar unit and the Vararam. The obvious choice, if the information referencing the performance enhancements of this unit is true, is the Vararam.
But the internet is full of well-intentioned but misguided information and exaggerated claims that may 'stretch the truth' a little. So, my question to those with experience with the Vararam is.....does it REALLY make that much extra horsepower and torque? Thanks!!

I installed my vararam at the same time I did my 85mm TB. So hard to say, both those helped a LITTLE. Worth getting but didnt make my truck insane throw you in your seat fast. I clean bugs and lint etc out od my filter sometimes, so least its functioning. But id say all air intakes are pretty much the same bud.

Without actually putting your truck on the dyno you probably won't notice that difference. Under idea conditions I could see it giving you close to the advertised HP and torque. But that would be way up high in the RPM band and like I said, under ideal conditions. For the average user it won't give you quite that much and you probably won't notice it with out dyno-ing the truck before and after.

That being said I do believe that it gives more gains than any other CAI on the market. Most of the other ones will give very minimal HP and torque increase and are mainly just for sound.

If you don't go with the Vararam I'd highly recommend the S&B. It is a true CAI and has a scoop that extends down underneath the truck to get even more cold air. I wouldn't even consider the Mopar one.... you'd be better off with stock. The Mopar one will give you more sound, that's about it. It's drawing hot air from the engine compartment which defeats the purpose of a CAI.

^^^^ I agree! I'm waiting on the S&B for the 2500's to come out. I had the Vararam and sent it back because I didn't like the fit. I think the concept is a great idea and proly works, but too flimsey for me....

I didn't feel the huge improvement until i packaged it together with other mods. It has a wow factor that is out of this word and will turn a lot of heads but that is about it. But combined with the ported throttle body and headers together it seemed to function well. At upper rpms when you have the most air blowing across it i think you will see the biggest affects.

Hmmm. Yeah that S&B unit does look well thought-out.

This is pretty much what I was going to say, saved me a lot of typing!
I think the DIY air tube added to the stock box w/ a HP panel filter would flow comparable to the S&B though, close enough that it doesn't justify the cost involved. The S&B is pretty though.

Yup, this is exactly what I would do if I had to do it over again. Plus change the tube from the airbox to a better flowing one. Would have been much cheaper but given me the same results. I do like the sound of my Airaid though. I wish they made a S&B for the 4.7's though. That I wouldn't mind spending the money on it for because of how good it looks along with the small increase in performance.
