Default '97 Ram 1500 - Murdered Out

Thought I would share my latest project with all ya'll. Since the clear coat has finally decided to peeling and having some paint flaking off, I decided that I was going to go with a flat black paint job. But since funds and time are tight, I found a product called PlastiDip. Seems to be working really good so far. The tailgate was done about 6 weeks ago, and this last weekend I was able t knock out the bed of the truck. Anyways, enjoy the pics.

What did you do in the way of prepping the existing surface for this?

There is really no prep for the existing surface. Besides peeling off the stickers and cleaning the remaining adhesive. Other than than, just clean the surface of any dirt and road grime. As for the other areas that are peeling, I'll be sanding with 300 (?) grit and then wet sanding with 600 (?) grit to smooth it all out. then off to spraying it some more. this is all with a rattle can too, not a sprayer in a booth or anything.

Did you feather edge any paint chips or does this stuff fill in pretty well on its own?

Nah, I left all scratches and dents alone. It fills in the scratches pretty good. when you're up close, you can see there's a scratch or a chip underneath, but from a couple feet away, it's looks pretty well blended. I'm not exactly going for a show quality job, just something that looks better than peeling clear and flaking paint.

Sounds like a winner to me. I'm out on the show quality finish myself. Sure, it's nice to have, but my truck works for a living.

Looks good so far!! That plasti dip is some awesome stuff. Just spray it on and if you dont like it or ever want to take it off it just peels right back off!! I haven't played with it to much yet but I do plan on using it in the future.
