Default Engine swap

Well the motor recently blew on my 01 1500 5 speed.

Im looking at 2 different options now. Either a 5.9 swap or a 5.2 i found out of a 98 jeep cherokee. My questions are;
1) What all do I need to go along with the 5.9 for it to be ready in my dodge that had the 5.2?
2) Is the engine the same from the jeep as the rams?
3) The 5.2 has 150k miles and they are asking 300$, is that a good deal?

I have been looking to do this swap myself but I am planning for 400+HP I know the 5.2 computer won't keep up, it probably wouldn't keep up with a stock 5.9 from what I've read, you will most likely need the computer from the 5.9. I don't know if the Jeep is the same, $300.00 for a rebuild-able core sounds good to me , I would tear it down re-ring , bearing , valve job, timing chain and all new gaskets at least. I haven't seen any low mileage runners in that price range.

Your going to want to match year as much as possible to avoid the differences that can be a PITA.

PCM will be a difference from 01 to a 98. I'd suggest you go no older than 00 b/c that is the year death flash was put in.

You'll want the PCM that is matched with the tranny you have too.

Manual and Auto tranny will mean a different input spline (and length, iirc) count.

5.2 and 5.9 are balanced differently and is just noteworthy.

Blocks are all the same, intake manifold is the same for the years you stated (older there are differences).

I don't recall any magnums in Jeeps. That would have been a swap into the Jeep. Only 1 year, iirc, had the 5.9 in the Grand Cherokee, if that is what you mean.

A couple of things to think of ! Budget, intent as in work or play and time.blew engine ? What heads cracked block ? Rebuilding is the best option as you'll know what you have 5.2 , align hone block set of 10.5 piston's decent cam Rv type don't go big lift 460 is good for everyday performance headers bla bla bla timing chain roller hi pressure oil pump street strip pressure plate and clutch disk you'll have a stout runner. Imo
