Default Recirculation actuator

some wires got stuck near the recirculation vent door that rotates up and down behind the glove box which caused gears to strip or plastic to break so now that vent door only moves 1/4 of an inch and will not seal the opening so i am not getting full recirculation of the air in my cabin. What i would like to know is where is this actuator it wasn't visible, and how hard is it to take this system apart and reassemble, it looks as though the blower motor housing has to be removed then another box, and then you can get to the area of the vent and possible actuator. The dealership said it's 50/50 chance it is unwarrantable as i modified the housing to put in a cabin air filter. They said worst case scenario it will cost me $750. So basically if they have to replace it not under warranty it will cost $1,000. As every estimate i have ever received was not high enough. Any hints tips and tricks would be so helpful. Also from the mopar parts websites and rock auto all they seem to show is the vent actuator, which to me changes the airflow from floor to dash to defrost. Noone seems to show a recirculation actuator for behind the glove box.

thanks!

I have not looked for the motor for the recirculation door, but I have done the blend door which is below the radio. See below.

If you take the glove box out you may be able to see the motor, 2 screws hold it in and it just pulls out. I had a stripped gear on mine and just moved the bad part out of position.

Check in the 4th generation section of this forum and go to "Heating and Cooling", you may find some more info here.

I am in the same boat my actuator is not fully sealing in recirc mode causing a wind noise. Haven't had time to give a good look at how much has to come out but from what I saw when I diagnosed the noise it wasn't pretty. Its getting hot around here so I will have to make time to fix it soon. Hopefully in the mean time someone who has had the dash a part can chime in on how much has to come out to access it.

Only diagram I found in my limited search

the 2009 - 2012 dash boards are the same
so are the climate control functions

empty your glove compartments
push in the sides of lower glove box & gently remove it
then look under the upper glove box & you will see a screw
remove the screw & do whatever you have to do to disconnect the USB cable
then remove the upper glove box

then look at the center console & follow this video to remove the console
then you will be looking at almost every part of the Climate Control System

Unfortunately I don't think that will access the recirc or air inlet for the hvac its on the top right looks like it has to be accessed from above but hopefully I'm wrong.

I think the real problem here is the dealer telling you it may not be covered. Did the filter mod actually cause the failure?
