I've done a few converter swaps on my truck. Had a circle d and an edge converter at different times. The install on a 4x4 is a pain but doable. I've done it on my driveway with regular tools plus a transmission jack. If it were me, I would go with edge over circle d. It has worked better for me than the d.

BTW...if you have a 2WD and an open rear diff, you WILL have traction issues (one -wheel-peel)
^this. My 4.7L has major traction issues with the higher stall converter. When it's raining I can't give it more than 1/8-1/4 pedal or I just sit still spinning. If I give it a pull pedal on dry pavement I burnt out a good distance. The hemis must have HUGE traction issues with open diff and a stall.

Most of these ~$500 converters will actually lose power in the upper rpms. The more expensive converters typically use a different stator that gets a higher stall rpm without sacrificing in the top end.

Install in the driveway is not all that hard, but requires a few things such as an extra set of hands, a transmission jack, patience. It's really an easy job but will take you most of the day your first time. After doing it 1 or 2 times it will only take you a couple hours(2wd).

Great reply.

Kudos.

My Hemi 4x4 Sport has 3.55's, open rear diff
and I would be totally screwed without the 4-Auto (AWD) option on my transfer case.

I used to just use 4-Auto for Winter driving, but now have to run it all year round.
I will likely have to replace the friction clutch in the transfer case soon,
it only grabs to engage the front drive shaft when rear tire spin is detected.

At the track on DR's I can often stick a 2WD full throttle launch,
but the track has to be well prepped with a fresh layer of VHT traction promoter.

My Edge 2800 stall has been amazing for a dig off the line, But
with my 500 whp Ripp install coming up next month and a new trans on the way, I'm stepping up to a 3000 stall Triple Disc ATS unit on MGH's recommendation.

and will likely add a rear locker, Detroit TruTrac next.

What kind of time are you shooting for after you install all that? 12's?

Since I'm currently at 13.8/98.5 NA at 2500' DA (13.4/102 corrected)

Ya, I'm thinking 12's will be easily in range with an extra 180HP

My bud with a QCSB 4x4 already has his RIPP installed and dyno'd
but he hasn't installed his MGH trans, ATS TC or Alcohol Injection kit yet.
(We both have nearly identical builds on our 2010 4x4's)

Was just looking to start a post about the same subject... oh well i guess ill just add to this one! Looking for a coverter too, I see Circle D out there and TCI makes one too and now looks like some of you guys are running the Street edge too. How are your results? Was thinking about TCI, but there's is a 12" and stall is around 2400. Thinking I want a little higher maybe around 2800-3000. What are you guys running and at what stall? Has anyone had theirs cut opened and modified by a tranny shop?
