Default New express or '11 Laramie?

I looked at both today at dealership. The Laramie was really nice. Every option I could imagine but had a few small dings and scratches. Had the 5 speed transmission though and I don't know enough about these trucks to know if that should affect my decision or not. So, get a brand new express crew with 4wd and few if any additional options, or the '11 Laramie also a crew with 4wd and every option, 31k miles. I'm comparing these because I think I can get either truck for about the same price, mid to upper 20's.

I'd get the new express if you like it. The 8 speed wasn't an option for 2011 but if the express has it then that's a huge plus for me. Do they both have the hemi? Which radio was in the express? Was it an 8.4" or 5"? If its the 8.4 " then that's another huge plus for the express and if its an 8.4an then that's even more points.

With the used Laramie you just don't know who owned it or how they drove it. It might be 30k hard miles on that thing and its just out of the factory bumper to bumper warranty. It's up to you and what your needs/wants are but ram has def. improved the truck since 2011. I traded an 11 outdoorsman for my '13 sport.

Tough call, but I think I would go with the new one. The '11 is soon to be 3 model years old and has the 5-speed. From what I have seen on this forum, options can always be added....

You didn't mention which engine the Laramie has and the engine/trans of the Express, but if they're the same engine and the Express has the new transmission, go for it. If it's say the V6, then I dunno.

It's easy enough though to add nice seat covers, nice wheels/tires, nice stereo, nice headlights, etc. through the aftermarket, and they'll probably be better than what the 2011 is rocking.

Plus, warranty. Especially if they're around the same price.

If the EXPRESS has the RA1 3" radio, be aware
it will NOT even have Bluetooth for hands free calling
the RA2 5" has Bluetooth
you can not switch out to any other stock radio either, according to Chrysler's own website
if you plan on towing much, check out the rear axle gearing, the 3.21 ratio is not good for towing

If you go with the 2011, make sure that you buy some kind of Warranty to cover any transmission or rear end issues that might possibly come up

Good Luck with your choice

You can't get the 8-speed in the 2013 Express. I think the 8-speed is standard for all 2014's though. You can't get the 8.4 in the Express either. RA2 5" max I think.

I originally intended on getting an Express until I started looking at Big Horn's and then Sport's. It was a slippery slope and I ended up with a Sport, mainly because I wanted the 8-speed, less chrome and darker interior colors.

What he said. Both are hemis, crew cab, 4wd and have 5'7" beds. Main difference is the '11 has the 5 speed and '13 has the 6. Someone brought up a good point about axle ratio and I'll have ask about that. I will do a fair amount of towing of a horse trailer. I estimate it's weight to be 6-7000lbs loaded.

Oh and dealer said the '11 Laramie had the MDS. Was this standard back then? Would there be a noticeable difference in mpg between the two?

Buy the new Express, the 2011 will soon have no warranty left
