I picked up a set of 55w 8000K HID headlights and fogs from Retro Solutions. Figured I'd share my install experience with you.
First off, Retro Solutions' customer service is INCREDIBLE. They answered EVERY question I had, and made this install completely pain free. THE DIFFERENCE IS INCREDIBLE as you will see.
This is the headlight kit w/ wiring harness
This is the fog light kit with harness
I know it looks a little intimidating, but the install instructions Retro Solutions gives you are TOP NOTCH. I'd share, but I believe they are copyrighted, so for the integrity of Retro Solutions I'll keep them to myself.
Started by taping off the bumper with painter's tape in hopes of providing a little protection against accidents. Then I removed the radiator cover (6 of those stupid clips), and the 4 bolts that hold on the grill.
Next, I removed the grill and removed the 2 bolts that hold each headlight in. There is also a little access door in each wheel well. You need to get in there any slide the clip up that hold the back of each headlight in place.
Now on to where to mount the ballasts. There are 4 in total, and I debated for a while over locations. Eventually I decided that mounting to the frame below the headlights was probably the best location. It's pretty well protected by water (just incase) and also was very easy to get to. I ran each harness across the bumper support in front of the radiator.
From hear I simply plugged in the fogs according the the instructions, but for the headlights I took the back cover off each headlight. You have the drill a 7/8" hole in the cover so the wiring for the bulbs can pass through. Theres a rubber grommet built on to the wiring the protect the housing against moisture. You have the "notch" the holes a little bit so the connector can fit through.
Now plug everything in, and put it back together........
