Do you guys think the people designing these vehicles are custom making them for YOU? They design them for what most people want. In a HD pickup, it's towing.

I'd be extremely surprised if the 8 speed ever made it into the HD trucks. The HD trucks have a GREAT 6 speed trans, no need to make a switch. They utilize the 66rfe (different than the 6 speed in the 1/2 ton pickups, which isn't a terrible transmission but that's a whole different topic).
do you have a dyno graph comparison of the 5.7 and 6.4, would like to see the substantial difference. Better yet do you have a dyno comparison of the 2014 GM 6.2 and this 6.4? I have an R/T that I do max payload all week for work, tow on occasion. Since this thread was primarily talked/bash about a SPORT TRUCK, would YOU like to see ITS torque curve on the dyno? stock and tuned? This 6.4 in a dualie (capable of 5,000lb payload) = weaksauce. I throw 12-1500lbs in my 4800lb truck with 4.10 gears and can feel the weight... who you kidding man Hey, if you're satifsifed with this 6.4 #s by all means have at it

I'm just saying they manufacture them as TRUCKS, not corvettes. I'm sure I would be more than satisfied with the 6.4, as I am more than satisfied with the power of my 4.7L in my quad cab with 3.55's. I tow and haul quite a bit. No 10,000 lb loads, of course, but I often haul 1,000-1,500lbs and of course it's noticeable but the truck never lacks on power. Hauling 4,000lb trailers is no sweat either. Yeah I know it's there, but it never struggles.

No I don't have dyno's of he engine's torque curves. I'm just saying they always produce the bigger engines this way, with less peak power and more low end torque.

Not trying to argue with you Lets see if we can at least agree on something. For .7 litre more of an engine, do you think MOPAR could of at least gave the consumer more than just possibly 10-15whp/wtq bump from the outgoing motor with virtually no COST to them? I know its a truck, you mentioned the corvette, how much did they detune the 6.2 for their truck? So people who decides to buy and lay their coin down for a 2014 dually with this motor. With the drivetrain loss and weight of that truck..you will be lucky to see 290 or so wtq! You're alright with that? Just a few questions my man

I'd say put a hi performance 6.4 or s/c 5.7 motor with a strong 6 speed manual in a r/t.

I'm sure that will make a lot of people happy happy happy.

IMO, if you need to pull something a HEMI won't, step up to a diesel. I don't know why they put gassers in 3/4 truck that get piss poor mpg when hauling. Just my .02. My company has a couple v1 f450s, yes, a gasser in a f450 and all the guys hate them. I know its a ferd but throwing that out there. Lol.

Yeah I agree with you just saying that this is the way it is. The performance oriented people on these forums probably represent 1% of all ram owners, so most people don't care about the acceleration and things like that, as long as it's adequate.

I'd love a manual in my truck! Again though, manuals suck for towing, that's where an auto shines. So they have pretty much got away completely from manuals...

guess I have to be one of the 1%. ONe of the newbies that checks in just this forum alone... then immediately run to the performance section with 5000 or so threads including drag racing section, with 60,000 views LOL thats not even including the other engine performance threads. Look, you guys wanna convince yourself with 'BS that's your perogative. Some of us are actually truck enthusiasts and DO care about dollar per horsepower, in turn efficiency, in turn performance. Trying to keep it informative as possible, and simply keeping the personal/bias opinions at bay. Especially when its really about money were talking about...peoples money like yours and mine.

Okay, being a truck enthusiast is one thing (Lord knows I'm one), but having a truck that'll be a stump puller is another.

Another example for ya, my old Ram has 230hp/330 ft-lbs, and my 2006 Chevy 4.8 (modded) dyno-s at 275hp/300ft-lbs.

The Chevy is fast, numerically has WAY more power (like 100hp/50ft-lbs more), but my ole 5.9 can tow far better, because of cam profile, head design, displacement, etc...

The HEMI 5.7 vs. 6.4 will be a similar deal; 5.7 will be good for towing/work, great for a normal/fun truck. Whereas the 6.4 will be great for towing/work/longevity and decent for daily driver (as it will get slightly worse mileage).

Of course, all this is in my opinion, but experience has shown this to be true...

it was never a question about the 6.4 being an improvement over the 5.7, I know its gonna do a better job. The question I have is why did they friggin cut its ballz off by that much. Its power that's already there, right or wrong. Is it because the HD 6 speed tranny cant take it? I don't know, do you. I still havent figured out why our fellow HD members didn't get the 8 speed before the 1500s. Lets see what this tranny can do! Put it thru the wringer, towing, hauling the BIG stuff.. test this bish you know Its costs I know.. but who's? I agree longevity is key, something I need to look into myself since I drive so many miles
