Default Keyless Start System

Ok I'm puzzled let's say I'm fishing and I drop my fob in the water, I have my spare key hid on the truck but when I open the door the alarm goes on and you can not shut it off. What good is the spare key. Also can you start the truck without the fob?

Thanks in advance

the spare key is to open the door if the battery is dead. other than that, you need the fob. my advice would be to hide your spare fob inside the truck or at least have it somewhere that someone can easily bring it to you.

If you did not get a 2nd fob, call the dealer and ask where it is.

There is a key blank available that has the chip and shape needed to start your truck, you alarm will still go off but when you put the key in the ignition and start the truck the alarm shuts off.

I am assuming your truck being a 2013 still uses this shape key.

Here is a picture of one for sale on ebay.

I have a keyless system so this is not an option for me. I was able to both open the door and start the truck without my FOB using my iphone and the uconnect app but i could not unlock the ignition

I don't think a 3013 RAM would even need keys! LOL. Sorry, check your info in upper right!

I would like to know the answer to this also. The owners manual does not say anything about it. If you hide the second key fob in your truck then anyone walking up to it can open the doors and start it. The Fob only needs to be within a few feet of the vehicle for you to open the doors just by touching the door handle. Then they could also start it just by pushing the start button.

Get a HitchSafe® Key Vault and have an extra fob always handy.

???
so if you have keyless entry & drop the FOB into water, you can't start your vehicle ?
with my 2009 FOB, at least i can partially take the Valet key out of the FOB, give the Valet key a easy twist & the FOB will open up
That allows you to get the battery out & in turn exposes the printed circuit board that is in the FOB
Then you should be able to dry out the FOB enough to make it work again

I'm thinking that this is more than just a hypothetical situation? LOL.....

So we know how the key protecting went, but how did the fishing go?

Did you catch anything.......well other than your key?

That wont work on the truck that the OP and myself have. On the 2500 with keyless entry and remote start, the keyfob is different then what I beleive the 1500's have. If the keyfob is anywhere near the vehicle , anyone can just touch the door handle and unlock the doors and once in the vehicle all they have to do is push the start button. On the 2500's the keyfob is not inserted into anything to start the truck, it just has to be near the truck. These trucks do come with a key but it is only to open the door if your battery is dead. If you try to open the door with the key it will sound the alarm.
