Default 95 dodge ram want to go carb hate obd1

Ok I was given a 95 5.9 ram. It's an auto truck the trans is going out and will be swaped for a manul. After I'm done with that I want to swap to a carb setup I hat the obd1 I think it's less than worthless. My question is what all is PCM controlled on theses trucks do I need new gauges ignition ect.

Also will the 5.9 take a 100 wet shot of n20 trying to make a fun dd out of this thing

The tach and the speedo are controlled by the computer.

The ignition is as well, but it is fairly simple to convert the basic running equipment to LA style set up, just remember, you MUST get a Magnum MPI to carb conversion manifold.

The distributor may need to be changed as well, not 100% on that.

Bypass computer for alternator with this:
http://alternatorparts.com/external-...nator-kit.html
Bypass computer for ignition with this:
www.************/downloads/elecignconv.pdf
There are other ways to do this, but these are pretty straight-forward, and if nothing else you can get the idea of the inner workings. Also, splicing in the Mopar Performance deal will keep the computer in the loop if you like things like air conditioning. Should keep the gauges functional too. If you just do the ignition and carb, the computer can still run the alternator functions as long as you do the wire splicing properly.
There's the Mopar Peformance M1 Magnum carburetor intake or the Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap for Magnum. There's also a cheaper Chinese knock-off, can't think of the brand. Get what you pay for.
100 shot of nitrous is pushing it.

Ok thanks guy I will have to look into it all see if it will work for me. It has to have ac this thing has to be my dd . I just can't believe how slow this truck is I mean come on 5.9l and my 1/4 was 16.8 I have to shave at least 3 sec off that befor the n20 and I just see the obd1 being a big ro would swaping to obd2 be a cheaper option especially with me swaping to a manul trans I have to find a new PCM anyway

Depending on parts source, it'd probably be pretty close, but I have yet to see someone voluntarily go from OBD I to OBD II due to added complexity.
Think about this now. You're expecting RAM SRT10 (500hp/525 lb torque from a 505 cube V10 with 6-speed stick--1/4 mile 13.8 at 106mph) performance from a 5.9. That's a tall order. It can be done, but that's a lotta cash. And if you're planning on having a high 13 second 5.9 to which you then crack the whip with nitrous, you might as well start with a bare block and get a stroker kit with all forged guts, since you'll need that anyway. Cast pistons can only handle so much and you're definitely wanting the sort of performance that a stock-guts 5.9 will not be able to reliably support.
Put another way, a 380 horse 360 Magnum will easily push a 3400lb Duster into a low 13 second ride no problem. With a little work and 4.56's it'll break into the 12's. It's physics.

Not doing a stroker and I think srt-10 trucks are slow for what they have. I could put a 5.3 Chevy truck in the 13's easy same with the older 5.7 guess I'm spoiled. So what's holding these truck back crapy head design? bad intake? Shitty cam? Combo of all three what is it because its not displacement I can promise you that.

Keep in mind my other dd is a high 12's c4 vette and goes high 11's on the juice. Also I got the truck for free and it will run mid 13's or it won't stay my dd for long needs to be able kicking some 2v stang's to the curb or I don't want it

Stock heads will support 400hp. Serious work will improve that some, say 430hp. Aftermarket can go 500+.
A carbed Magnum with .480" lift and net duration under 230 degrees will easily hit that 400hp. Even Mopar Performance's original 380hp 360 Magnum crate engine actually dyno'd just over 400hp.
The stock cam is only .410" gross valve lift. Not gonna pull stellar numbers there.
The intake is tuned for lower rpm torque, not 6,000rpm HP. So, definitely not a Corvette engine.
I am also of the firm belief that a performance built transmission would knock 3/4 second off whatever the engine could deliver. Those stock automatics aren't called slushboxes for nothing. You mentioned swapping to a stick, also an improvement.
My point on it being a tall order is it won't be cheap. The Hemi Rams are a better starting ground for the buildup you're talking about, buuuuut that's not what you have.

The biggest thing holding these engines back is the intake. Install a high performance manifold and throttle body, couple that with a cam, headers, and fuel injectors, and you'll see impressive results.

I did these exact mods to an old ford 5.0, and it netted nearly 100 rwhp, so just imagine what it can do for a 5.9 with better stock heads...
