Default Powder Coating Stainless Side Steps

I purchased the wheel-to-wheel stainless MOPAR side steps from the dealer and was going to have them powder coated black. They have tried multiple times and the dealer said they can not get the finish to adhere to the steps. They have contacted Chrysler to find out why without any answers and even tried another set of steps with the same results. Anyone have their stainless steps powder coated successfully? Maybe i need to find another powder coater??

What Can Be Powder Coated? Typically any metal object that can hold the electrostatic charge needed to affix the sprayed powder and can tolerate the high heat levels of the curing process. Mild steel, galvanized and electroplated steel, aluminum, stainless steel and most other steel alloys can be powder coated.

I realize that stainless can be powder coated, so i'm wondering what the issue is with these steps that is making it so difficult. If anyone has any info as far as sand blasting or special process that was used to powder coat your steps please let me know.

the answer is right there,
it is all in the prepping process

So I did it my self with rocker guard spray from a can from crappy tire and it worked awsome. Ive had it on for 3 months now and not a single chip at all. Best 14 bucks I ever spent. I cant upload pics but if you s3nd me your email I will send you pics

Do the steps have any kind of clear coat on them for protection? You may have to have that stripped off first. I looked into getting mine done, still will (the older wheel to wheel steps that were aluminum) and I talked to an electroplating company and they said for 100 they would chrome strip the steps.

Did he happen to say why? Looking to get some wheels powder coated wondering if there might be a specific reason.
