Default Towing setup?

When setting up to tow at what point do I switch from "light trailer" to "heavy" my trailer weighs 2640lbs. Empty tractor is about 4200 lbs. so 6840 lbs. loaded ??

I thought the recommendation for Heavy was over 10K.

You have try switching settings with added weight. I've found a dump trailer I pull empty needs light and when full I need to switch it needs the heavy

Hook up and try it with both. See which one you like better. My trailer is probably 6500# loaded and I really have a hard time using "light". There is way more room with "heavy".

Not to sound stupid but what do you mean by "room" what does it do to the truck when you switch from light to heavy

Gives you a much wider range of gain. From as light a gain as can be had in "light electric"(heavy hauling) to a lot of gain for heavy braking on heavy loads or just quick slow down. Again though, it depends on your needs. You don't want the trailer brakes locking up all the time. So you have to adjust your gain. If your load is too light then heavy electric might be too much and vise versa. You just have to try them both to see what is best for you.

I pull a 32' 7000+ lb travel trailer and it seems to work fine on "light electric" for me.
