Default wheels stuck to lug nuts !!

Just thought I would rotate the tires after a simple oil change and I couldn't get the wheels off. Tires seemed like they were glued on and not the first time I've had this problem with wheels. Finally gave up went to a local tire repair and the guy just kicked them and they came right off. Stupid me cost me $20 bucks. Anybody else with this problem?

Well number one, they're stuck to your hub/disc/studs... not your lug nuts...

But yes, this is quite a common thing. Especially with new vehicles. All it takes is a simple kick on the bottom or a bit of rocking back and forth and they should come right off.

when the factory installs the wheels, the vehicle is still moving along the assembly line
the wheels are put on at one station & then go to the next station to get the lug nuts put on the studs

they don't want the wheel to fall off before it receives the lug nuts, so when they set the wheel on, they then put a flimsy thing that looks like a very thin washer onto the studs, they hold the wheel in place until it gets the lug nuts put on. That is there ONLY function

When you get your tires rotated for the first time, the flimsy keepers are usually cut off & trashed

This may or may not be the reason some people have a struggle removing the wheel

i have this problem on a few vehicles over the years. i once had to use a sledge hammer on the bottom of the tire. took about 5 good whacks.

I don't know how ram does it but at our place (Chev Equinox, GMC Terrain), thd wheels and lugs get done at the same time, there is no use of those flimsy washers. On my truck I wasn't the first one to pull the wheels off but I know those flimsy washers are used on the brake rotors. I have had this proble before though and i make sure to coat the back of my rim that contacts the rotor and hub with anti seize so it doesn 't d corrode and do it again

The washers have nothing to do with the rims getting stuck to the hub. They hold the rotor on to the hub, not the wheel. It is corrosion and corrosion only. As mentioned, a little antisieze applied when new fixes the issue.

Also if you are mechanically inclined and plan on keeping the truck for several years, a little antisieze between the brake rotor and hub is also a very good idea. Makes changing them out so much easier. The rotor will come right off instead of being almost welded to the hub. Think how hard it was to get the stuck rim off the hub and you had some leverage. Now try that with the small diameter brake rotor. Usually takes sledge pounding and even heat in some cases which can cause damage to other components like the bearings.

Just a very light coating of antisieze is needed. Too much and you can fling it onto the brakes which would not be a good thing.

a tip to stop that from happening is to clean the hub where the rim centers itself with a piece of emery cloth than coat it with anti seize bluegoat said or coat it with fifth wheel grease from a big truck. the fifth wheel grease won't dry up. i use fifht wheel grease anywhere most people use anti seize but it's alot cheaper and accomplishes the same results.

A few weeks ago, I had a tire valve fall out.

I pulled over and tried to change the tire. I couldnt get the wheel off.
I tried to kick it, nothing
I tried to hit it with a hitch, nothing
I tried to lower the truck without lug nuts, nothing.

At some point the truck fell of the jack and bent it.
I gave up and called AAA. It took a few minutes with a mallot to get it off. Now I carry one in the truck.

i had a blow out and was on the side of the road trying everything to get it off. kicked it hit it hell i even raised it as high as possible and dropped it as fast as i could in desperation. finally called a tow truck and he too tried everything. so i had it towed to a walmart to have them take it off since it was the closest place to me and i dont have tripple A. they too couldnt get it off. so i tried lending the guy a hand. i ended up suggesting he soak it in PB blaster so we sprayed the hell out of it. let it sit for 30 min and wacked the hell out of it with a dead blow. finally then it came off. initially i was going crazy thinking there was a screw holding it somewhere or something.
