I liked the 4.7, enough power for most people's actual needs, I rented one for a week. I towed a 25' boat without too much fuss. for the entire week, I averaged 16.5mpg, about 50/50 city/hiway...

Are people forgetting the light duty diesel? It's specs are inline with the current 4.7L.

we had the first version of the 4.7 in our 2000 jeep grand Cherokee. It served us well, got 140k trouble free miles out of her before trading her in for a 2005 4-Runner with a 4.7

I honestly didn't understand having the 4.7 vs now having the V6 and HEMI. Does the 4.7 get any better mileage then the 5.7? If you don't need too much power then the V6 makes perfect since.

Typically the 4.7 gets better mpg than the hemi, at least the 08+ 4.7.

The v6 is fine but you can't tow pretty much anything with real weight to it.

If they would add the eight speed and MDS to the 4.7 I think it would kill the Hemi in gas mileage. It is a great little engine very dependable and its not scared to work. The only issue is it actually costs more to build then the Hemi.

My uncle has a 3rd gen 4.7L with well over 300,000 on it. I actually haven't talked to him in a while, he may be closer to 400,000.

Either way its a long wearing engine, although outclassed by newer engines.

No offense, but I think there's a lot of biased 4.7 owners here. It's a good engine but I always favored the 5.9 so I could care less if they did away with it.
