if was built up for truck use, it would hold up, but lousy mpg. build it for mpg and the truck will destroy it.

Interesting replies.

I was curious to see where people would come from.

Funny how I read threads where people whine about the poor fuel, but when a possible solution is suggested it gets shot down quicker than a zit faced kid at a school dance.

I do have to agree that from the sound perspective it would be a million miles apart, but I don't know about the work factor?

The first year of the Muranos (2003) did have a CVT issue, but I haven't heard anything about other model years?

As I said it was just merely a thought that crossed my mind when driving the 200, but I quite enjoy the speed of my big Hemi.

As said above, it could be done, but feasibly, it just wouldn't be worth it.

Also, trans temps would be a MAJOR issue when under load. A friend works for Nissan Corporate in TN, an he said the Muranos have major issues as they get older with controlling the trans temp, even newer ones when people would haul heavier loads.

Ford had a similar issue in their 500/Taurus CVT. Hence why they didn't last...

I have driven one car with a CVT and that was a Nissan Altima 2.5S. (2012)...

Suffice it to say I HATED it. I would rather shift my own gears than deal with the incessant (what felt like) throttle hang. I dont know, maybe in a prius, or something like the altima its ok, but i cant imagine it in something weighing 6k+ unloaded.

Yep, hunter, you speak my language. I'd love a good old stick option in a hemi! Like they say, wish in one hand, spit in the other, and see which one fills faster. We're stuck with automatics boys, stuck, I tell ye.

I wouldn't mind a standard in my Ram, but I'm not paying for a 2500 to get it. I don't need a truck that big. At least Ram offers it though.

I would kill someone if I had a CVT in my Ram. We've got a CVT in the wife's Caliber and is great in that platform, but you can't modify anything in the drivetrain with a CVT trans as they actually limit the torque sent through the trans, so any engine modification would be useless, and being that I'm a speed junky, well, that wouldn't work.

The new pentastar does quite well even in the trucks and they perform great with the 8-speed, so why limit those engines with a CVT trans as well when there's the 8-speed that's just as smooth and holds power better.

NO ONE has stated that a CVT would not work in a rwd application. the trans tunnel would be huge. Think how a cvt trans works. How would this work in a rwd application. I don't see it, maybe someone can put it out in terms for me to understand a rwd cvt trans setup.

Every CVT trans equipt vehicle is fwd. very compact and works great in a way. My wife's Nissan has a cvt. it took us a while to get used to it. BUT I will say. Nissan has cvt issues even on the '13 models. My best friend work for the local Nissan dealer. he has put in 4 13 Altima cvt trans (even replaced 2 '13 Altima eng) due to diff issues. The dealer avg 2 cvt trans a week and they only have 11 techs total.
