Default Toy Hauler

Looking for advice, I have a 2013 1500 Laramie with the hemi and 3.55 gears. I have a family member that is selling a keystone vr1 toy hauler that has a dry weight of 7350# and a tongue weight of 1200#, they have a equilzer hitch on it already, the max wieght is around 11250, they tow it with a Nissan armada. I'm curious as to how my truck would handle this toy hauler, i know the tongue weight is really heavy and just curious as to what other

According to Ram's website the max payload for your truck is 1505 pounds with a max tow of 8650 pounds.

http://www.ramtrucks.com/en/towing_guide/

Based on that, the tongue weight alone is too high for your truck. With fuel and one extra person in your truck you'd already be over your payload. Plus with a dry weight of 7350 you're going to end up being over your max tow rating all loaded up as well. You'll need a 2500 to pull a trailer that big.

Do yourself a huge favor and pass on it. The hitch weight is above the allowable factory class 4 hitch andyour way above your tow rating. Its really hard for me to believe that towing that with an armada was comfortable. YYou'll be way above your gvwr and most likely above your rear axle weight rating. My hitch weight is 900 lbs and I'm 300 lbs from rgawr

That's kinda my thoughts too just can't wrap my head around how they are doing it with their armada. I know my gears hurt me some on my towing but seems the 1500s are still very limited as to what we can to due to really low payload capacity

Yeah that's pretty crazy I know some of the armadas had air suspension too. Really that's the same thing as a titan.! You could probably pull it if you had too but with a brand new truck I wouldn't even think about it. I know my trailer is pretty big but things get tricky with those toy haulers and hitch setup especially if you remove the toy.
From what I remember reading in the manual the max hitch weight is 10% of your max towing. I find that pretty weird bc depending on gears your ratings change. I personally think dodge underrates a lot on the truck but your not pushing the limits your way beyond them. What's your payload I'm guessing its more like 1100-1200. Not brochure payload, yellow sticker on drivers door payload.

Yeah I mean I'm a big guy so between me my wife and 2 kids that's about 500 lbs already it just amazes ms the mor I look into it and the more I see what other people are pulling just makes me wonder how they get away with doing it cause they all have to be overweight

Oh yeah I understand you. I'm really not one to be throwing stones either as I'm two hundred pounds over gvwr of my truck by I'm within every other metric(that's with full tank of gas). But within the others which too me are much more important like axle ratings and and hitch rating. The new eco boost has a gvwr of 7650 but combined axle ratings of 7800lbs. Our trucks also have a combined axle rating of 7800lbs but gvwr of 6700-6800 depending on crew. That where I think ford is pushing the limits. I just don't see how you can get that close to maxing out both front And rear axle limits. That almost 1000lbs more. I know there's a lot that goes into it and its not just axles.
I really likes the way the truck handles the weight of my trailer but I do have e range tires which help stability and also 3.92 axle.

I've pulled some hills and have so far been really impressed by the power of the he I but another 4000lbs would scare me. I have installed a oil cooler as I was seeing oil temps in the 230s. Every other temp was great but would probably be a lot different with that trailer.

Yeah don't see how the Eco boost can be rated for as much as it is either, I know turbos do wonders but its still not a hd truck, my cousin just purchased a puma 31bhss which weighs in at 7700 dry and is pulling with a Titan with the 2.93 gears so I know he had got to be way over his limit too. I live in the south so don't have to worry about hills and such but it's just hard to find something I like in a decent size that's within reasonable limits of my truck

Just another tid bit of info, of the 900 lbs of hitch weight I have only 740 is actually on the truck. The wdh put 160lbs back to the TT axles. This will always be different for every set up but was surprises that it was that much. You still want to keep that tongue weight below receiver rating however. Good luck on you search it took us 4 months to find the trailer that we were looking for and that was after we knew what we wanted. It was so stressful we almost gave up altogether as we weren't finding what we wanted but didn't want to drop so much money on something we weren't crazy about
