Default a/c goes to top vents..cool/warm with heavy throttle

01 5.9 ram....ac works..but heavy throttle it goes out vents on top of dash...and while driving moderate throttle results in it being not as cool. I was told possible ac vacuum lines..any ideas where to start with this...thx

My truck did the same thing, I replaced the vacuum check valves for the HVAC controls.

They go through the firewall right next to where the AC refrigerant (aluminum tube) goes. On the passenger side.

Good luck, and keep us updated with what you find out!

You possibly have 2 issues going on.

For the case of losing the cooler temps due to engine load, this is typically a result of a vacuum leak. A line has broke, for example. Find them all and check visually. Typical place are the vac lines down near the front axle CAD location. I experienced this a couple months ago.

This may also be the cause of the blowing only through the defroster too. It may be another issue that I'll reserve for later if the above does not resolve.

Good luck

Is there an AC vacuum diagram out there?

it is 3 lines total. one comes out of the refrigerant lines and into a t. that runs one into the plastic cowl below the windshield the other line that from the t goes to the engine's intake. i just went through this with mine a week ago.

Relax. Upon heavy acceleration, or low-vacuum, the system is designed to flow air thru the defroster, and not the vents. The defroster is the "default" position when there is low-vacuum. Like under heavy acceleration, or a vacuum leak. The thinking is that "in the event of a vacuum failure, you will have a clear windshield".
