Default Headlight Out

Not sure how to describe this issue with a 2004 Dodge 250 CDT. On the instrument cluster there is a "Lamp Out" light on, I believe it is the left headlight out. Also the temperature control knobs do not have any lights lighting hem, the radio does. Would the temperature knobs be related to the "Lamp Out" issue? This is my FIL truck, he had a similar issue a few years ago and had (now this is what I am unfamiliar with) Tippin or Tipim modular (that is what one mechanic called it) replaced on it for a few bills.

Are the headlight bulbs just a replacement where you can just plug in?

The bulbs out in your HVAC control head have nothing to do with the lamp out indication you're getting. If you have a headlight with no power to it then you most likely have a failed Front Control Module. The TIPM wasn't introduced until 2006.

Update: It was the front control module that needed to be replaced. This is actually the 3rd FCM in the truck, the original one lasted 4 years, the second one lasted 2 years. The part has a one year warranty so I am hopefully if this one goes, it goes in the next 11 months.

This past weekend I received the Lamp Out indicator on the dash as the right headlight went out. The front control module was replaced in October 2012 and has a one year warranty. The problem is the FCM was replaced at a dealer 6 hours away. When headlights go out in this truck are they related to the FCM or could it be a bulb issue as well? Would a local dealer honor the one year warranty of the FCM even though they weren't the ones that installed it? I plan on being back in the area where the FCM was originally installed in October which will be just before the one year mark.

This truck is my FIL who lives out of state and we have had custody of the truck since he can not drive anymore. The only thing my wife and I do is pay for fuel that we use.
