Default K&N cone filter only

Hi guys

Have a little question, I have a 2013 Ram Sport and I would like to get more sound from the engine, would I be able to install just the K&N cone filter to the existing Ram air intake system. I heard the new air intake systems are very efficient and work very well so I really don't want to mess around with it, like I said its just a bit more sound I'm looking for

Thanks

Lou

your best be for more sound is to remove the OEM unit and install an after market, large probability is that its not designed for this and will end up with possible issues, JMO but I would either get a drop in replacement filter by K&N or change the OEM CAI to something else. Again JMO

Yeah that's what I was afraid of, but for the price of a CAI kit I can just change my exhaust which I'm leaning towards lol!

I went with a 14" magnaflow muffler. Sounds great and reduces backpressure. Its only $100 for the muffler and $100 to have a muffler shop install. But its not real loud. You can listen to sound clips on youtube.

They make 22, 18 and 14" mufflers. They are all louder than stock with the 14 being the loudest. Slight rumble at idle but nice and loud at WOT. I will say the open intake is louder though. I got the AFE stage 2 and its a little to loud for my taste. Guess Im gettin old.

I hear ya, maybe I'll settle for the 18", I'll have to listen to it, I'm past that stage of loudness lol! Don't want to get annoyed by it either

That is what I did. Drove down to the local Autozone picked up a K&N filter, large hose clamp and remove the old unit, leaving the tray behind to support the cone filter. I will try and post a picture. With the money I saved, I went to the local muffler shop and got a Magnaflow 18"and had the resonators removed. The sound is good, but not as loud with LT's or shorties.

That's what the previous owner of my Silverado did. OEM airbox still in place to take in air from the fender
