Default A/C cold at idle warm at over 1500 rpm

I think i had the start of this problem last summer...now its 9 feels like 100 in Houston and once i take off down the road it gets warm even at a steady 60 mph.
I was thinking it was the orifice tube. So I bought a liquid line with fixed orifice and replaced and 2 lbs of synthetic extra cold freon . NO change..

Any one else have had this issue??

Is your compressor engaging? Dont immediatly assume the orifice tube. Check the basics of A/C.....Compressor engagement, and pressures.

You can guess at the problem, but you'll find that guessing is expensive.

Proper diagnostics is cheaper. You can't guess a/c, you HAVE to diagnose it properly. This requires a set of manifold gauges to take readings of the pressures relative to the ambient and output temperatures, and correctly deducing the problem from the readings.

The pressures change as RPM changes. As the RPMs climb, your suction pressure drops and your discharge pressure rises. If you're having a/c issues at speed, obviously either your suction pressure is dropping low enough to trigger the low pressure cutoff, or your discharge pressure is rising high enough to trigger the high pressure cutoff, both will cycle your compressor off. This is indicative of a lot of possible issues that you can't narrow down without knowing what the pressures are.

Get a set of gauges and read what the system is doing. BTW, the refrigerant charge for our Rams is 26 ounces, and is confirmed by your a/c spec sticker under the hood. Two pounds is 6 ounces too much, and is possibly the reason it still doesn't work (high pressure cutoff).

Thanks for the responses! I found that there was a loose pressure switch connection. Very strange because this problem was at speeds above idle , so I'm guessing either the wind at driving speeds coming through the engine compartment or the torque on the engine was causing the disconnect in the looses plug going to the pressure switch. Also after looking I found the harness going to the pressure switch rather tight, as if from the factory the wires were short, no slack in the wires.
I was using guages installing the freon and two pounds put it right at what it should be for 95 degrees. It is right at the red line though. I may extract a few oz. out.
Its been the first time in a while to feel constant cold air and I'm in Houston so it's much appreciated.
