Default Almost bought a 2013 but...

So after serious research I almost bought a 2013 from an area dealer, he had a Laramie Longhorn marked down to 41k on his website and when I called he said that it might be slightly higher depending on which incentives you qualify for. (First red flag why advertise like this), and when asked about USAA pricing he said his (second red flag) internet price was going to be lower.

I didnt want to drive all the way to Phoenix (3 hours) just to have to drive the gas guzzler back home because of some sort of shady dealership maneuvers which I was starting to get a whiff of.

So since I already have a build sheet from my in-town dealer which is only 2k higher for a 2013 I am going to go ahead and wait it out to see how much of a discount there MIGHT be on the new 2014s.

Good idea or bad?

2014 prolly have no incentives yet, since I'm sure Ram wants to lose the '13's off the lot

They advertise like that to get peoples interest and there is someone that can get it at that price. I say find out the USAA price and find out what you qualify for and if your haply buy it if not don't.

I just bought my 2012 using a 'buying service'. It was provided through my insurance carrier and saved me a ton of cash. I gave them all the details of what I wanted in the truck and they did all the leg work. Negotiated best price (behind the scenes directly with the owner of the dealership), provided vehicle history, soup to nuts - best deal ever.

Can you go into more detail about "buying service" please. Is it a third party who does all the homework and negotiations for you? What's their cut?

How much compare to invoice is "a ton of cash" you saved?

I've never heard about this....

Got a great deal on a '13 with everything I wanted. I imagine it'll be awhile before you see great deals on the '14s with '13s in stock

They've been around a while now. Here's a great article from Edmunds. http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/secrets-of-a-professional-negotiator.html

Quick, interesting read. Wether it's worth it, I couldn't say.
