Default 2000 Ram 1500 Trans question

I was pulling my new camper for the first time this weekend. It's a 24' Dutchmen Sport Lite. I had been pulling it for about 30 miles with the O\D turned off, when I noticed that it changed into overdrive. The light on the dash said it was still turned off, i pushed the button a few times and it did nothing. Still was going in overdrive and this made my trans temp light come on. Luckily I was pulling in the drive when it came on, let the truck sit over night and now the button works. Anyone have any clues as to why this happened? The trans was rebuilt less than 8 months ago, and it pulled my 5th wheel with no problems and it was a heavier camper.

IDK 100%, but it could have gone into "safety" mode, doing anything to cool off.

Or in the case of mine, the connector on the trans has crap in it, and acted weird...

Thanks for the response, I have not had a chance to look at it yet. I think im going to check the brakes on the camper, and see if they are dragging maybe. The truck acted like the camper was heavier than it is.

Any time you get a trans temp light you should not shut down. You should put in neutral (to allow full fluid flow) and allow the transmission to cool down before shutting off. If it doesn't cool down after a few minutes, then you have a bigger issue. Agreed, connector is dirty, or switch is going bad.
