Default Towing mileage

I have a 2009 Ram 1500 crew cab, short bed, Laramie, with 5.7 engine. I am thinking about buying a 5600lb toyhauler to pull. We will be putting a 1100 lb trike in the unit. What can I expect for MPG?

I tow 3000 lb bass boat for 20 miles at 70mph one way and get 13mpg hand calculated. I'd almost bet you could get 11-14mpg depending on your speeds.

I wouldn't expect more than 10-12 at 65-70mph.

This is a realistic expectation., but will have to factor in the terrain you will tend to travel on as well. What will affect your MPG negatively the most is not the weight, but the aerodynamic drag of the trailer.

I think all the above estimates are very optimistic. In reality you will get more like 8-10. My camper is 7420lbs I know it weighs a little more but a toy hauler usually gets taller in the rear and has may have more wind resistance than a tt. Mine is also a full height tt so i'm 11'4" w/ ac. Once i break 60mph my mileage drops a lot as the truck will downshift more often. When I stick to 60mph downs shifts occur less often and have to usually be a moderate sized hill. 55mph is almost too slow as the rpms are a little lower so it can't hold the speed. Also as you probably know tires for tt are rated only for 65mph.
