Exclamation Recently Installed K&N....Need some input!!

Recently I had installed a K&N air intake. After it was installed I disconnected the battery for a 5 minutes, reconnected it and let the truck sit idle for 20 minutes. Some people say that the computer has to re-learn the new air flow? So anyways, after driving it for a few weeks I kind of notice a power decrease. I don't know if it's just me or the 95 degree weather we've been having lately. I did notice when I have the pedal to the metal going through 4th gear my RPM's lag around 3-4000 for a few seconds and then picks up and goes. Everything else on my truck is stock. I was thinking maybe with more air coming in I need a straight through muffler to push it all air out and maybe that is the reason? Some input would GREATLY be appreciated guys. Maybe I should just install the stock intake?

I was talking to my friend that installed my intake and suggested that I'm bringing in too much air and the computer just can't compensate. Also told me to try putting some duct tape on my cone filter and cover half of it and see if it still lags.

A tune or tuner would help with the increase in air flow in the intake now. The PCM will compensate for it a little but you wont get what you should out of it until it's tuned for it.

I thought the cold air works fine. I got more power and a heck of a great sound from the engine. I figured the ECU would work it since its Speed density. MAF sensors do work better on engines and dodge should have gone to that system. they read better. I see a power boost more with a few months going by. I also have a Mufflex muffler and that helped a little.

the Y-pipe is needing changed also!

I just tried the duct tape and sure enough no lag at all and a lot better pull at top end. A tuner would be nice and the right way to do it but I don't have the funds to spend $500. Trust me I'd get it if I really could. Think I might go back to the stock intake. First I'm going to do some more testing.

Chris, do you have the K&N? If so I don't think its considered a cold air because its open box and sits on top of the motor breathing hot engine air. That's another reason why I'm leaning towards the stock again because it sucked cooler air from the fenders and was enclosed. Don't get me wrong, the open box intake makes a great sound!!
