Default Oil change again?

My 2012 Ram with the 5.7L Hemi has just 7500 miles on the clock and the computer in the truck says it needs an oil change again. This will be the 2nd one since I bought the thing. The truck is averaging just 3750 miles between oil changes. What's up with that?? Does that sound normal??

Maybe shot intervals for break in periods? I changed the oil in my hemi at 2500 5000 and again at 8K before letting it go based off what the EVIC told me. Idc if it was over kill, it's just how I'm used to breaking in engines.

Do you do a lot of stop/go city driving? Or short trips that wouldn't let the oil get the the point where it burns out impurities??

Not really, just the usual Los Angeles driving. I'd say 50/50 city, freeway.

Hmm. I wonder if the dealer could tell you anything about why the light came back on so quick. It's some sort of retarded complex algorithm figuring when it needs to be done

I'll ask them when I take it in. At least I got two free oil changes when I brought the truck

My light comes on roughly every 5k miles. I change around 7,500 though, I use amsoil synthetic. I go more by how the oil looks than mileage and time. You can get a pretty good idea of the condition it's in by looking at what's on the dipstick.

I would change it more often up until 10k miles though, and preferably with conventional oil at least for the first 1 or 2 times.

when using a conventional oil, 3k is a good oil change interval, you could push 4k but the filter looses it good at that point, when i switch to synthetic ill change it every 5k........but when in the city even half the time, i think 3k or 3500 miles is fair, especially during break in

Something to keep in mind is that not all conventional oil is equal and not all synthetic oil is equal. Some conventionals are good for 3k miles, some 5k miles. Some synthetics are good for 5k miles, some 10k miles, some 15k miles, etc.

My first few oil changes were on short intervals. At about 12000kms (7000mi) the fuel economy and oil change intervals got much better
