Default Towing

I have a 2005 Ram off road package.
It is an automatic transmission.

I have been asked to a trailer for scouts. It is pretty heavy from my understanding; six to seven thousand lbs.

When should I be using the tow haul mode and should I be dropping it down into intro drive?

Thanks for your help.

I think I'd have it in tow haul all the time, maybe lock out OD when in any kind of hills.

Does the trailer have brakes and do you have a brake controller? That's probably the most important part of hauling a trailer that heavy.

breaking is a big concern. is your truck rated to pull this size trailer? as long as you are set up properly, and within the limits of your truck, you should be ok. if you over spec, things can south, esp when it come s to insurance and being overloaded.

As I understand it, selecting tow/haul mode locks out OD.

I have electric brakes package on the truck as does the trailer. I am registered with DMV as having a GVWR of 10,000 lbs.

I have a 07 ram q/c 4x4, and I tow a travel trailer that weighs about 6600 lbs with no issues. I have seen some websites that say my truck is rated for 9100 lbs.. good luck and safe travels.......

Yep. Just put it in tow/haul and leave it. Don't try to keep up with traffic going through hills like you normally would because you can't!

Keeping it in tow/haul the truck should try to help you stop by engine braking as well.

Just take it easy and remember when you are hauling a good sized load like that slower is faster in some cases.

You need to check with your state, and see if you are required to have a weight dist. hitch also. Most states now require it if towing over 5000#.
That way you can steer, at highway speeds. Otherwise your just aiming your truck and trailer down the road.
