Default Undercover Lux and low price rant

So I've been searching all over the internet (like I always do) to find the best price for an undercover Lux tonneau cover for my 2012 Ram Crew Cab.
For those looking for the cover...autoanything charges $1,247 for them. I then did a simple search on Amazon.com and found the cover for $962.72. Lastly, I put the $962.72 price into the "price beat" feature at undercoverfactoryoutlet.com and they emailed me a price of $866.44!!!

Anyhow...I did a live chat at Autoanything.com since they have a "low price guarantee" on their home page. First I asked for their best price and it was in the $1,150 range. I then told them about the Amazon price and they said they could match it. So much for a low price guarantee-more like we guarantee to overcharge you unless you do a bunch of homework-then we will match that price...I know all sorts of businesses do that such as having to tell the Wal-Mart cashier to give you a price match on milk. Bottom line-autoanyting will not price match undercoveryfactoryoutlet.com price of $866.44 because they are not an "authorized dealer"

Sorry for the rant...but now you know where to get the lowest prices on undercover tonneau covers

I work for UnderCover, part of my job is internet MAP pricing. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It looks like Amazon is currently out of stock on the item, however we are working with Amazon to get them in line with MAP pricing.

If I'm reading this right you are going to force Amazon to raise their price, is that correct?

undercoverfactoryoutlet.com has some crazy low prices on the undercover line, I am not sure how they offer prices as low as they do as they are offering them at or below dealer cost (ourselves included and every other shop I have spoke with can not get them at this price either)

Nice to see manufactures making Amazon follow the rules like the rest of us.

That is how I read it and manufactures do this all the time, some more than others and some are a lot more strict and enforce their policy's more than others, as this is not always a good thing for the consumer it does protects the "brands" value which can be a good thing as well.

Think of it this way.

You buy a part, you pay MAP (maybe even 5-15% off of MAP 95% of consumers do), you go to get a new vehicle the dealer wants you to return your vehicle to stock more often then not so you take the parts off that you have installed "aftermarket" and then try to sell them for 30% less than what you payed (average of what you can get out of most used parts). Then online companies blow MAP out the water and offer the part for less than what 99% of dealers have to pay for the part new and you have to settle for 1/2 what you payed maybe even less as you can buy it new for 30% less with a little research.

Just some food for thought, not defending anyone or meaning any harm to anyone either

Thanks
Jeremiah

We cannot Force anyone to follow MAP but we ask that they do in an effort to protect Brand value. In return for following MAP we support online dealers with our Marketing images and material.

That is a great example.

MAP pricing is common and, to me, is a form of price fixing. I suppose it gets around the anti-trust laws because it's Minimum ADVERTISED Price. If a customer walks into a store, the store can sell the item at whatever price he chooses and without regard to MAP. However, some manufacturers don't see it that way and don't want a store to sell below MAP no matter what.

Never mind I deleted what I said to start a new thread, as I didn't want to dilute this one any.
