So what type of mileage difference are we talking in normal everyday highway driving. (65-70mph) level road no wind. +1-2 or +4-5 with 3.21 vs 3.92.

I asked my dealer build a 2014 Laramie Limited, but he could not find the Limited edition listed as an available model for 2014. Has anyone been able to order one? My son is interested in the Limited with the 3.92 gear.

He has driven my 2012 Limited and thus is very interested in one for himself.

Last I heard mine should be at dealer mid to late August.

i would go with the 3.55 with the 8 speed.

I have the 3.92 gears. If I ordered again I would still get the 3.92 gears. I rarely tow, the 3.92 gears make the truck a lot of fun to drive. I wouldn't buy the truck with 3.21

Very little difference. I the driving environment you describe I average 20.3 mpg

I'm super happy with my 3.21's I have no idea how fast it would jump off the line with the 3.92's but it'll bark the tires just fine as it is now if I stand on it. I think the 8 speed takes alot out of the loss that the 6 speed has with lower gear ratios.

I will note though, that whereas my old gmc would hold overdrive up certain grades on my normal commute, the new ram does need to downshift much more often.

only have 383 miles on it after 6 weeks though, it might get a bit better with time. mileage for me is dead on sticker.

I have 3.21 in my current truck. I noticed something was different on the first drive around the block before doing the paperwork. I had driven a 6 speed months before ordering mine with the 8 speed. The 6 had full towing and 3.92. I thought it might've just been torque control with the 8 speed. (I hadn't driven another 8 speed as mine was the first my dealer had received). I definitely started picking up something wasn't right, especially highway driving, it was constantly gear hunting and had no power at speed. I finally put it on a hoist and took a look. Sure enough 3.21. A friend has 3.55 with his 09 6 speed, and even there its night and day differrence, on highway mostly.

My new one coming has 3.92.

I didn't buy a truck for fuel economy. And I drive freeway to work and back. The gear hunting is really annoying.

Same here and yes, your mileage will improve.

My truck has 3.21 and doesn't hunt for gears, so IDK what you are talking about deathwarden, maybe the truck had some other problem. There was a post somewhere on the site comparing the 6 speed 3.55 to the 8 speed 3.21 in similarly equipped trucks and they came out to be about dead even. Actually, IIRC the 3.21 8 speed was slightly quicker off the line but the 3.55 6 speed pulled even eventually.

Has anyone heard a reason why they are not offering the 3.55 axle on the 2014 8 speed Hemi Ram's? Seems like a pretty large gap between a 3.21 and a 3.92 axle ratio! I would think there is a higher demand for the 3.55 axle as a happy medium for moderate towing and fuel economy instead of one extreme or the other. I was told it's not a build restriction, but rather they are just not offering it at all with the 8 speed Hemi. Maybe someone can shed some light, as it doesn't seem like a smart move to me?
