Default My Ram 1500 (V6) after one week...better than my F150?

Well, I surprised myself when I traded in my F150 towards a Ram truck. I've never actually considered a Chrysler vehicle of any kind until now. I compared the big three side by side at a mega-dealer that carries all of them in one lot. This was one of those things where I read about the new tech in the new trucks (Pentastar for Ram and the Ecotec3 for GMC/Chevy) and wanted to check it out. I wasn't actually going in to buy, but things happen.

The price point and what the Ram trucks included that others didn't at a comparable price was a major factor. The test ride sealed the deal.

Well, after one wee I do not regret my decision. So, I thought I'd post my impressions after a full week in the new truck.

Comfort: Seats are on par with my F150(XLT) which is good. The quietness of the cabin is better in the Ram. They dash/instrument layout is quite nice and everything is easy to read/reach. Also nice are the rear AC vents for the passengers. Something that only comes with higher trim levels in the F150 line). It's a nice inclusion that makes a big difference in passenger comfort on these hot Texas days!

Engine/Transmission: Not even close here. I had the 3.7L V6 (not the EcoBoost) with 6 spd auto in my F150. The new Pentastar V6 with the 8 spd and 3.55 gearing has it all over the Ford. Silky smooth shifts, nice power delivery and much better gas mileage. I averaged 16.7 mpg per tank in the F150. My first tank in the Ram was 18.8 mpg. When you have a long commute like I do every mile counts! My daily commute is 35 miles each way and a mix of city/highway.

Fit and Finish: Very good. While Flame Red was not my first color choice, it's quite striking. Love the fact that Ram trucks come with wheel well liners (Ford will gladly sell them to you as an accessory ).

I only have a couple of minor issues here. One is my center console lid...it rattles. I also have a mysterious whistle coming from the passenger side of the truck. Can't seem to figure out what is causing it, only occurs at highway speeds, so I guess wind is whipping through something and causing the whistle. Other than that I am very happy with the switch.

I don't plan on changing/adding much. I have nerf bars on the way and will be installing Air Ride bags this weekend as well as the brake controller I had in my F150. As soon as I sell the Bakflip I had on my F150 I'll be getting a bed cover and that will probably do it....for now...

This is most likely the Antenna. Getting a Stubby antenna fixed this issue for me.. The Stubby Antenna also will give you 0.0000001 Extra MPG so it'll pay for itself by 2072.

I have that same whistle...sounds like a design flaw. I will try removing the antenna to see if that's the issue. Enjoy your truck, I didn't come over from a Ford but have a similar truck to yours and I also love it!

I had both Fords and GM trucks in the past. Their price/performance made the Hemi a winner 4 me

I'm in about same situation, currently have my all time best '93 Dakota, and '02 F150 5.4. Seriously considering Ram with 3.6 and 3.55 gears. Great looking truck you got! How's the front bumper alignment? I've read some are about an inch off. Keep reports coming.

I don't see any issue with my front bumper. Got my Air Ride bags and nerf bars installed tonight, though!

I went from 1989 F150 at less than 10mpg to Ram 1500 Pentastar and averaging 21mpg! Over half of my new monthly payment use to go to extra gas. Easier to do if I watch the mpg on the EVIC screen. It makes me a more pleasant driver again to others. Without it, I'd prolly be driving aggressively like I use to in the other truck and would probably be getting about 18mpg in the ram. No whistle for me before or after I changed my antenna but I don't think I've had the passenger window down yet, too hot here in TX!

Ionic Nerf Bars installed ($180 shipped from running board warehouse):

Air Lift 1000 air bags installed as well ($85 from Amazon):

Both installations were easy and very straightforward. The bars were no-drill, using what I assume are the factory bar mounting points. The Air Bags were from a newer batch as they came with instructions that used the flattened bag method of installation instead of the old way of removing the springs.

All that's left now is the arrival of my brake controller wiring harness adapter!

Hard to accept the antenna causing a whistling noise. If that were the case, everyone would be complaining about it and Dodge would immediately correct the problem. If your dealer does track down the source of the whistle, please post the solution.
