Default First 1 1/2 week ownership impressions

Have had my Ram for a week and a half now. Having been a GM owner all my life wasn't sure what I was getting into, but was sick of their trucks rusting out from underneath me. So far am impressed. Smooth driving, nice power, great styling and comfort and thanks to this site great information on issues/fixes. Even great gas mileage, got a little over 20mpg on the idiot gauge driving back on 4 lane from the dealership. Wife even said that she loved it after only driving it once. Only negative I have at this point is the 2-3 shift seems way to low or the ratio between the two is to great, not sure.

Mods so far for the first 1.5 weeks of ownership are: 15% tint all around, Diablo Trinity, Magnaflow cat-back, Volant CAI, Daystar 2.5" lift, BP catch-can. Have Y-pipe that still needs to be installed and tube steps to order as well. Other than that wheels/tire next spring and get the damn chrome trim ring around center console shifter fixed and should be good to go.

So hear is to hopefully a long relationship with the Ram and you folks here at the Z.

I don't think that it is the point that it shift, per se, just seems like a big difference between 2nd and 3rd that I end up putting down the right foot to kick it into 2nd again. Also, wtf is the deal with no owners manual, really???

I like the shift pattern in tow/haul mode.
Work truck is a 4.7 2007 and it is always in tow mode and it has 193,000km and works like a top!

You've found one of the 'design features' of the 6-speed transmission. Unless you're in Tow/Haul, it doesn't use 3rd gear on the upshift, it goes from 2nd to 4th, and it is a fairly wide gap. On the downshift it goes from 4th to 3rd.

Normal shift pattern in Non-Tow/Haul mode:
1-2-4-5-6

Normal shift pattern in Tow/Haul mode:
1-2-3-4-5.

1st 3.00:1
2nd 1.67:1
3rd 1.50:1
4th 1.00:1
5th 0.75:1
6th 0.67:1

Personally I would prefer 3rd gear to be more evenly spaced between 2nd and 4th, and use all 6 all the time.

Enjoy the RAM!

If you are the first registered retail owner call 1-866-726-4636 (in the U.S.) and they will send you a complete set of manuals. THICK owners manual, radio manual, and warranty guide.

I have the same issue with the shifting. Its very odd and lazy feeling. I've heard that a tuner usually fixes the odd holding gears and delays, I'm getting one after I go on vacation.
