Default 2012 1500 Sport Magnaflow Install

I purchased and installed the Magnaflow 12198 14" Muffler.

Notes:
  1. The stock muffler is a different size then the Magnaflow 12288 18" and the Magnaflow 12198 14". This thread will give you information that you will need for both. There are significant differences that will create fitment problems if you try to just bolt these up.
  2. I found out that both the Magnaflow muffler and my piping was not real 302 Stainless when a magnet was able to stick to it quite well. I was disappointed.

Key Points:
Stock:
  • 3" Inlet on center across 12" and 9" sections
  • 2.25" Duel Outlets spaced 6" apart on center across 12" section, 5" from side of 9" section
  • 26" Long
  • 9" High
  • 12" Wide
  • 8.5" Long Inlet
  • 3.5" Long Duel Outlets
Magnaflow 12198 14" (Used in this thread)
  • 3" Inlet on center
  • 2.5 Duel Outlets spaced 4" apart on center
  • 14" Long
  • 3" Long Inlet
  • 3" Long Duel Outlets

Magnaflow 12288 18"
  • 3" Inlet on center
  • 2.5 Duel Outlets spaced 4" apart on center
  • 18" Long
  • 3" Long Inlet
  • 3" Long Duel Outlets

I added a section of 3" pipe to the inlet side so that I was 8.5" long from the edge of the muffler to match stock. I welded the extension on to reduce clamp joints but clamped it to the mid pipe so that I could remove it and put the stock one back in if I ever decided to.

Welder & Settings - .30 SS Wire (MIG) 220V Amps on C, wire speed on 3

After it was installed

The outlet side was a little more difficult, because I needed to make some slight bends for the spacing between the pipes being 2" narrower and the offset of the stock. This is important to get everything lined up without anything banging or rubbing. If you go straight out the tail pipes will not fit in the bumper holes correctly and the pipes will rub the frame.
The outlet pipes were extended 15.5" to maintain the same overall stock length and I had to install reducers to get them to join the stock 2.25" tail pipes.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, if you were following my other thread you would know that there was some fitment issues that I was not happy with. This thread represents those required changes. I did not take a lot of pictures so these are after shots. If you have any questions or input please let me know.

Muffler came from Just Jeeps Toronto
Tubing and bends came from my local Midas

After all was done, the rework I had to do and the pain in the ass; I would have been better paying a shop to do the install or even better, just buying a catback bolt on kit. I love the sound of the truck and am glad I went with the 14" and not the 18" but a catback install is pretty easy and the additional costs would have been worth the money when you factor in tubing, clamps, fabrication, and then re-fabrication in my case which I hope this thread helps other from making the same mistake.
